I had to come back to this thread, your post was haunting me, Maddie. Do you mean because of the specialised diet/careful way you have to eat? I've had that thought myself - (oops, self censorship, I was about to go on a political rant sort of thing) well, I understand where you're coming from, but I think that hopefully if TSHTF the simpler diet might actually be advantageous to us. Hopefully, being the operative word there.Maddie_cat wrote:It makes me realise that ITSHTF, I would not survive for very long

Re: Gluten free pasta
Unfortunately, I am also vegetarian so it rather reduces the options altho' I suspect that if it did get bad, I would have to start eating meat.
No, I have thryoid problems and without thyroxine.......
There is only so much that I can stock up on so it makes you realise that you really do need good health to get through a serious breakdown of society. The lack of appropriate would also hasten it.

I'm vegetarian too!
But I don't have a thyroid problem ... I see where you're coming from
but please don't slit your wrists just yet
(there's no huggy smiley on here, but please imagine one!).

had a gluten free cake many years back, tasted AWFUL and just broke into bits in my hand.
Re: Gluten free pasta
They can be *disgusting*, there's no doubt about that! Thats why I prefer to cook my own, or just have dried fruit, soaked in something-or-other

The bread is either crumbly or rubbery
The cakes are invaribly crumbly and flat
Biscuits taste 'orrible
Shortbread tastes like soap.
Did I mention about slitting my wrists?
Only way to deal with it is to cook and bake your own and find different things to cook

Re: Gluten free pasta
I have been eating Paleo for 8 months now and have got rid of aches and pains, I feel much stronger and solved a few other long term niggly health problems.nickdutch wrote: I also am gluten free, but the real b@gger for me is the gluten free breakfasts that cost me a ton. Co-op muesli for instance, nairns gluten free oatmeal or kello puffed rice and the like. If you know a way that i can get good gluten free, sugar free, yeast free and dairy free breakfasts then let me know.
There are some great recipes that might be of use to you Nick, as it is Grain, Legume and Dairy Free. But the food is fantastic and very satisfying.

Breakfasts =
I cook a batch of Egg Cupcakes every week (about 18) and eat them for breakfasts and snacks, they can be frozen too.
Replace the veg with any that you happen to have/like.

OMG! I have seen the light, and its name is paleo cookery. Never even heard of it before
Those egg cupcakes are brilliant, thanks Plantiejo - I especially need *big* recipes like this, because even though I'm only cooking for me, I have a mini-range, and its crazy to just put one item in. So this and some flapjacks, and I'm ready to go.
