Hello from Serenoia

Post by serenoia »

Well this is a new venture! Finally pushed into action by the current television series about American preppers, but been convinced of the impending collapse of something/everything for much of my life. New Zealander by birth, so a potential bugout is the other side of the planet. Mainly looking to make connections as I believe collaboration with others of diverse skills is the best approach. Lots of ideas, practical skills and resources which I am developing and also happy to share, but also looking to learn from others and their expertise. Currently living in a southwest city, but thinking of acquiring a bugout location somewhere in mid/south Wales (less than 2 hours drive from me). Is there a bugout buddy (or more than one) out there? I am 53, female, with a daughter (and potential fellow bugouter together with her boyfriend) who is a doctor (so is her boyfriend) - very useful to have along! Happy prepping! And get in touch!

Welcome to the forum !

You say you are in SW, devon/cornwall ? choosing a bugout location in S/mid wales means you'll probably have bottlenecks in travel plans crossing severn bridge or few alternatives. Have you considered somewhere closer, it might make more sense, theres plenty of options ? I guess the reason for choice of bugout location is due to budget, as land is cheaper there ? I only ask as I'm interested in similar locations myself and like to hear others opinions on the various options.

It's a bit early in the morning Moony she said south west city, which is probably Bristol ;) but even from half a mile away from the bridge getting to a bug out location could be problamatic, in Britain the infrastructure gets overwhelmed on a bank holiday, if SHTF the roads, all the major ones and most cities will get clogged up, even on foot in towns and cities it would be pandamonium, and to think that marshal law would not be in place within a day restricting any and all activity would be naive, most local councils have published disaster strategies and contingency plans which will swing into action, which is something the TV shows even in the states haven't taken into acount, all government will hold on and try to govern as long as it can, which in itself can be as much a part of the problem as the disaster itself is to preppers.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.
