I'm not crazy!

Post by ctrljay »

I like the ideas from the America series Doomday Preppers. However I do feel this is not quite as intense in the UK? Also they do come across a bit nutty! I have not prepped anywhere near what they have on the program. At what point does a prepper stop storing?

Anyone opinions on what level you should store to? Its a shame they didn't do an episode for uk preppers, so you could see a contrast from the USA. I think the program portrays preppers as nutters or crazy! I'm a British prepper and proud!

Over here or over there the media is the same it picks the ones who will look a bit ecentric to say the least, then edit the final version to underline it, it doesn't matter what the group is, if they are perceived as a bit nutty then that's how the media will strive to make them look.
They do it to pagans at every oppertunity too, and the ones who will look the worst amongst us are often the first to volunteer.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

True, wouldn't want to advertise what I got and where I am. if it came to the TSHTF would u help a follow prepper? Or would a prepper community form. ?

We'be had journos n here in the last, requesting to speak to Preppers but I think most of us think the same - we don't want to advertise our preps to everyone.

I think the idea of meeting people before a shtf event and getting to know them is a good idea. That way you would know who you might be offering support to. Same with a Prepper community although that has been discussed a lot on here; discussions about leadership, hierarchy etc.

i`m more than happy to help a fellow prepper , identifying those that ive never met could be a bit problermatic but that can be sorted out over a few cups of coffee.

I am a Canadian prepper which I think would put us somewhere between you guys and the Americans. Don't believe all you see on Doomsday Preppers. It really is a show that greatly manipulates the truth and perceptions to get ratings. Some reasonable people have appeared on the show only to come across as raving lunatics. Anyway back to the original question "At what point does a prepper stop storing?". Well It depends on what you are aiming for. You may be satisfied with the Government suggestion of 72 hours. For most of us that does not cut it. So look at two weeks as a small step. From there to 1 month, 3 months, six months and finally one year. If you want to go for a longer period of time it usually involves being fully self sustainable after one year.

Where you want to take prepping to is always a personal choice. It depends on location, personal circumstances, health, fitness, obligations, available space and of course available cash. If you make your decision and decide that your plan calls for a month's supply of food and you reach your goal that's great. You are prepped! What seems to happen with most people as they reach one goal is that they go one to set another higher objective. So maybe the answer to your question is you stop when you are happy with what you have got.
It may never happen. Best to be prepared just in case.

Hello and welcome,I agree with unsure (ive a mug only a mother could love  ).For me its under the radar all the way until we can meet up with other's with a similar mind set. On the storage side of things product shelf life can be a real pain,Stock rotation is key (new to the back older to front etc.) thiers a company in the uk that sell Life raft ration biscuits each pack provide's enough protien and energy for 72hrs sold by the pack or in bulk. I will be getting some come Pay day to see what they are like so i will let you know if they are any good or taste like man hole covers.

Much of the TV that is on today sees humans as zoo or circus animals and only displays the ones who are doing the tricks that the brain dead will be entertained by. The prepper with enough ammunition to kill half of America, the vampire film fanatic who sleeps with her fangs on and the like.
Bad TV will always be a bad mirror of society at large. But not everyone see it that way.

I don't think that the term "prepper" has a definitive meaning. Someone who buys some Elastoplast in case they cut themselves is a prepper. Its all personal.
