heating oil

my house has oil central heating but im moving to a house with gas heating,but as i still have a lot of unused oil left in the tank im planning on taking some with me,but what other things can i use this oil for and what should i store it in? cheers.

My heating oil is kerosene. You can use it in lamps or even in a diesel car. Not sure about storage though - normal diesel cans I suppose.

Alternatively, you can sell it to the incoming purchasers. Speak to your solicitors about it. It isn't a fixture or a fitting so does not have to stay with the house.

It depends somewhat on how much you are talking about. If it's 5 or 10 litres then theres various cans / containers that'd be suitable. If you are talking about 100's of litres there are now some quite strict rules for storage of oils if there is not an existing tank where you are moving.

As for use of oil, well theres plenty of options, it can probably be used in a diesel vehicle with correct modifications (others here might be able to comment on this). It might turn out to be more trouble than it's worth tbh, when we moved out of an oil-fired house we just added the value of oil left behind to the agreed selling price.

using heating oil in your car is a bit naughty , it will run on it but if you get stopeed and tested they throw the book at you , unless you want to keep it for shtf , if you do then depending on how much you have , why not use 200 ltr drums . these are readily available on line or any decent sized garage will use them . and more than likely let you have any empty ones with caps .
