If I had an allotment then I'd def get one Jansman. I hate depending on a freezer - powercuts can easily ruin all your stuff.
Re dried veg, I figured if we had loads of porridge; the veg + lentils/barley for soup and stew making; and a load of bread flour thats the basics that would sustain life.. all you need after that is a gun and some game and you've got good food
Thats great thinking. The perfect local (Scottish) diet.

have you thought about picking and sauerkraut style preservation? not much good for thirty year storage but it might salvage a freezer full of veg if there is no power.

I love pickled ANYTHING! and this year I will try making sauerkraut. But I still fancy this dried veg method. I grow a LOT, and this could ease the gluts, as I am not a big fan of frozen veg.

Frozen veg tastes and looks like sewage  If I had an allotment I would invest in a deent dehydrator, you'd get your money back within a year.

I use this site for pre-dried veg.

Have had both the mushrooms (the cheapest I've found anywhere) and the mixed veg - very impressed with both.

I initially got the mushrooms as I cannot grow them myself - bought two boxes of the pre-set ones at £14 - and got only two mushrooms - the most expensive one's I've ever had
