Went to town today to do some shelf stocking. For some reason everywhere was busy, and queues obvious. As I stood in line it occurred to me(and I know this is not a new thought)that if there were a run on food-just like fuel the other week-you would not stand a chance of even getting INTO a supermarket, let alone buy enough grub for the duration.
I also saw two incidents of 'Queue Rage'. And this a Steady Monday Morning. Imagine people who are scared, really scared.
I would not even entertain the idea of joining those crowds. There you go,just my meandering thoughts for what they are worth...

Good post. I do not want to have to deal with crowds if something, almost anything, were to happen. I may not have a larder full of luxuries but we would get by for a little while at least.

isnt this why we prep? so that if there is a panic we dont get involved and risk being hurt, maimed or even killed in the general madness?? well, its why i prep anyway!

Absolutely and I am sure we discussed the possibility of last minute prep shopping in another thread. Sure if it seems safe go for it but I would definitely take no risks, if I was getting last minute stocks and people started grabbing things from trolleys, I at least know Incan walk away and stay safe with my existing preps.
People get real scary and primal when fear and panic sets in.

Thankfully I've never seen any instances of this in shops or garages up here but I see it in the papers and on the news. It doesn't take much to send some folk over the edge nowadays does it?

Be aware also that the food follows the fuel. Supermarkets don't have great stocks of food out the back, they operate on "just on time" logistics. If, say, a fuel strike were to happen then food would begin to run short as soon as supermarket delivery vehicles did so.

Very true PeteM,
99% of stock never sees the warehouse racking, it goes straight off the delivery pallet and onto the shelves.
So the warehouse itself is more like a broom cupboard than a larder, there’s usually the odd few items of ‘overstock’ but predominantly it’s filled with stuff for an upcoming promotion.
Basically then what’s on the shelves is what they’ve got, and most of the time that isn’t actually that much. Certainly if the delivery failed to come one night then there was panic buying the next day, I reckon by dinner time most if not all the items people usually buy would be long gone.
