Hi All. Been off forum for a bit but would like to say Hi to all again. Just purchased a Katadyn Survivor 06 off of ebay for £96 ex demo model that had not been used but had been kept up to date with using the Biocide that keeps the membrane in tip top shape.
This type of unit is often used on boats, so I have always wanted one as a just in case of water problems (tsunami issues contaminating) , or to just get to the sea and collect seawater to turn back to drinking water. For those of you that have not heard about these here is a link to a site that has info on them.

Have a another water hand pump for normal water contamination issues, the ones the army uses, but this one converts sea water - fresh drinking water. Has anyone else got one or used one before or has any Biocide going on the cheap or recommend somewhere to buy some.

It's not cheap, well I don't think so but I've never bought any so...

8013327 Biocide 3.5 oz £12.72
8013609 Biocide 8 oz £21.62
Lots of spares there for Katadyn systems too, that was an absolute bargain btw, couldn't believe the price of the new ones.

And you will look like Popeye after you have pumped it for a few hours. They are hard work for small returns. You will have to be dying of thirst to want to use one for more than a few minutes.
I honestly will be interested in your immediate comments after pumping half a liter or so to see if they match my experience. It is rated at 890 ml/hour but in reality you will only get about 500 ml so four hours pumping a day approximately. The military version has longer handles to make it a bit easier but it is still very hard work.

Thanks guys. It will be hard work pumping 40 strokes without getting tired but if you have no choice you do what you have to do. Anyway hope I dont have to use it, just got it to add to my stash of stuff.

Just got a leg strap with extension handle that folds for the unit so this makes pumping much easier and less energy used.

I have never looked at a desalinisation product and the price of the thing is alarming. I think that I will stick to the old fashioned method and use a fire. If I cannot get a fire going then I will just have to go thirsty!

I recommend the katadyn hiker, it works really we'll, got one in my bug out bag. Living so close to welsh mountain springs and the river wye; in fact living in the uk as a whole with such a natural abundance of water I think it is an essential piece of kit

Keep an eye out on Ebay for some useful hiking water filters, pocket sized but worth a punt.
