I think you misunderstood my post.

I didnt mean a policeman, i meant me as a normal civillian asking to search your bag.

tfish,
Wearing a bally shouldn't be an issue. Plod may ask why, just as anyone else may ask. Unless a section 60aa (read last post, apologies I missed an 'a' of the section 60aa bit. If I post at least I should be able to type properly...twice :) ) there isn't a right to search/ask to take it off with no grounds to.
If another member of the public reported you for being suspicious then it's plods duty to investigate to protect the public, blah, blah.
If you explain your side "it's chilly and I'm walking the dog" it should take a minute, if that ,therefore, they find all is well and all are happy (including the person who reported it).
Hopefully common sense should prevail all round.
Generally, tfish you can wear your bally just don't be a gang member/ne'er do well intent on violence and looting OR get reported by an 'innocent bystander' for looking suspicious.
Ironically, I have found it quite warm today!

I usally end up having the police called out once or twice a month at work, Il ask the next copper. Generally they are very good thou, I asked if I was allowed to carry one of those long heavy mag tourches (type you could club someone to death with), as I was working nights in the town center, and my residents often have the lights off, steal the bulbs or get power cuts. The copper said I could carry it in my car, and on the street as long as I was going somewhere no bother.

Of course somtimes when I m standing by the works door, for fresh air to stay awake at 2-4am, some coppers will do a U turn and give me 20 questions
