Re: So what will you do if the oil runs out?
The answer to the original question of what I would do if the oil runs out is mind numbingly simple.
I would use Oven chips instead. Simples. It shouldn't take 12 pages to work that one out.
Love the powerswitch link by the way.
Be lucky (and facetious) (that uses all 5 vowels and in the right order too)

Admittedly heating my house is the biggest worry, it's oil fired and costs a fortune

I came across an idea yesterday, we live next to a stables with about 9 horses, surely we could just take a pair of the, I used to ride a horse up until I was about 14 and I'm sure I could do it again. Not that I would condone such an ct

Re: So what will you do if the oil runs out?
As a "newbie" I'm just catching up on the older threads and read this one with interest!
A couple of points...
1) People (or should that be sheeple) don't wont to learn, I been involved in a local project to educate them on saving money by saving energy, over 5 weeks we reached 21 ppl out of a possible 3000!
2) The oil may run out in 40 years at current consumption but due to the booming economies of India and China, oil is in higher demand and this is why oil prices are going up and up!
3) Nuclear power isn’t going to be a “Golden Bullet” as Uranium is a finite resource (mainly produced in China) and Electricity is not a fuel but a product!
I am to survive without oil, by prepping my family should be able to survive the transition as IMHO oil wont run out over night but will become too expensive and cause a giant global recession!
Just my two penneth worth.

Re: So what will you do if the oil runs out?
the whole point is oil WILL run out at some point, its a finite resourse, dosent matter if its in 10 years time or 40 years time, at some point there will be none left, if india and china use more then it will run out quicker, no one knows exactly how much is left as all the oil producing countries lie about how much they've got-for political reasons.stickman45 wrote:As a "newbie" I'm just catching up on the older threads and read this one with interest!

Re: So what will you do if the oil runs out?
I recently got a little low on diesel, Beleza carries about 2 tonne, a big hole in the drinking fund, especially in Portugal at 1.70 Euros a litre, so I sailed the 140 mls over to North Africa and stocked up at 85 cents a litre (still 700 quid but a huge saving). We're being ripped off in Europe and GB, I'm lucky I have a choice, and when I hopefully end up in Venezuela early next year fuel is 6 US cents a litre so my tanks can be refilled for buttons.
My point is the oil won't run out, and I think there is more chance of the infrastructure of oil supply breaking down rather than the oil actually running out, and the law of supply and demand will mean people will continue to get along with ever increasing prices until it is economically infeasible for them to continue to use it.
Basically it won't run out, but are you prepared to pay the inflated costs of buying the stuff???

In the process of choosing a wood burner, hopefully no more oil fired central heating for me
