Tent, Tarp, Poncho ? etc

Hmmmm...

My preference would be an ultra light pop up tent - you can get ones that weigh around 1.5kg. Saying that, it would really have to be end of the world stuff for me to be bugging out to the woods. And I own neither a tent or a tarp at the moment.

I have, now I use a combination of bungees and 3mm cord with line locks for fast set up.

Bungee Pros:

Fast to put up and take down if you get bugged out from your BOL
Almost Idiot proof ( see cons )

Bungee Cons:

If over tightened can spring undone and cause serious injury
Length short compared to guylines, need close tie off points.

We have three low profile shelter tents

Quick and easy to put up, stronger than a lot of the springy pop-up or double hooped beach shelter types, though all have there place.

the light weight kit i carry varies from a dmp poncho in my finnish army gasmask bag with various other kit inside including para cord to make it into a tarp with my bivi poles to a prepacked bergan with a heavy duty dmp army tarp with a jack pyke cammo bivibag and a soilder 95 cold weather sleeping bag (that weigh's more than 3 kilo but u can doss down in any british cold weather and wake up the next day lol )
p.s u can get ex army bivi bags for £6.50 on a certain site which also sells brand new czech army bedrolls which have a outer waterproof cover a buttoned in canvas type sheet and a buttoned in fleece blanket which all zips up, i put a simple foam sleeping mat inside mine and it all rools up inside itselt tidely ! £9.99 sorry lol.there are other cheap cammo tarps too on line for just a few pound , i use one to cover my bench over winter.

I have lived under tarps on long wild -fishing trips. They keep off the weather. In the Summer. My first-line alternative is an outbuilding. Even inthe Summer you need a four -season sleeping bag. And good ground insulation.

Indeed they are, as my hobby is bushcrafting, I have already spent quite a bit of money on lavvus/tarps/ sleeping systems/cooking gear/lighting/knives etc.....

I had the money at the time and bought high end stuff to add to my Military surplus kit I had after being "demobbed".

As I have stated in previous posts; there is a cross-over of certain skills and kit used in both bushcrafting and prepping, so I get the best of both worlds. I see and try out equipment that would assist me if the smelly stuff ever hit the oscillating metal.
