Alternate lighting and heating

Post by the-gnole »

So the banks have tumbled and there are no more headlines to read as we can't buy newspapers and the leccy is cut off due to no money to pay for it.

So what have you got in your preps to deal with a source of heat and light?

A bit of light and a bit of heat from this one.

It started like this, but didn't look good for in the house.

So with a bit of work it looked like this.

Very nice,

I have 2 Vapalux's now and the Optimus stove, both preheated with Meths and run on Paraffin. Building up the spares on mantles and washers/parts and the fuel. :)

I can also use the Meths for my Trangia Set up:

Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

What kind / make of heater is this? What fuel does it run on ? Paraffin? Does it need external venting?

I'm pretty sure it is an Aladdin, Uses wicked paraffin, and as for ventilation, normal ventilation precautions need to be taken, not much good in a modern house without a window cracked open

Also have an ancient "Picnic stove" paraffin heater, it would have cost 10 shillings (50p) when new I got it for £10, with three spare wicks and 20ltrs of paraffin at 25p a ltr.

Had a 16ft Diameter "round house" shelter up to 25 degrees with this, when it was 5 degrees below out side :D

I didnt pay anything like that much for it though! But its far better for me, than a cooking stove. And 2 years gas out in the shed.
We have got a few paraffin lamps now as well, got wicks on ebay and all filled up ready for winter.

Gnoley, you are a very modest person. Has anybody else ever told you this? No?

You want a prepping site, you get it with me, I try my best to walk the walk, and not just talk the talk like so many around the net do.

Has anyone been using one of these?

I picked one up a few years back to use with the huge stash of Hexamine fuel I have amassed.
