Clever Kettle

Post by Ian »

Just as a by the bye.

A year or so ago we bought a Morphy Richards Intelliboil kettle.

It is rather good, not only does it have a window (most do these days but it is our first) so you may add just the right amount of water so you don't heat water you don't use, but you may also set the temperature at which it switches off 85ºC/95C/100C so you may get the temperature you need. I find the 85C is just right for instant coffee and green tea for example. It is also easy to use.

I have not compared it with our former kettle but it must save on electricity heating less, to a lower temperature. Only a little perhaps but it all adds up.

I know the extra heat comes into the house anyway offsetting the gas bill and the cost of the kettle should also be factored in to the equation. But electricity costs more than gas per KWh and we needed a new kettle and this one was on half price offer in Sainsburys so it all fitted together.

I don't suggest you buy one specially but if you are in the market consider it. Worth seeking out.

That's such a good idea! Thanks for the tip :)

On that note, think its time for a cuppa!

What sort of price did you get it for Ian?

If I recall correctly it was the universal £19.99 as an offer price. They seem to be around £35 at the moment.

January sales anybody?

Worth looking out for if it gets down to that price again.

I like a kettle I could, if necessary, run on the genny, but over 1.5Kw is a no go.

Other options are available though.

I checked the usual haunts, anything between £35 to £50 is the norm.
