There's some thing wrong with my camera? I'm just getting a load of fuzzy lines? I'm a bit, well I'm very tech thick, but I'm guessing it needs a new some thing card?mike.f wrote:Any chance of seeing some pictures of you BOB Magz? I haven’t got one, hoping to bug in.

Re: My BOB
Looking good magz!
One main thing that I would notice is the lack of a cutting edge. For me this would be one of my most important items. I couldn’t imagine surviving anywhere without a good knife.
My recommendations would be:
Fixed Blade – Frosts/Mora make a very good budget knife. Stainless steel loves to be left in the bottom of a pack with minimal care unlike carbon steel.

Folding Knife – EKA make very good folders the Swede 8 is my latest toy and comes highly recommended.

A Swiss army knife or Leatherman/Gerber multi tool would also be a valuable addition (I'm a Leatherman man)

Re: My BOB
Hi Magz
I didn't notice anything to sleep on like a roll mat etc for comfort and insulation incase you need to sleep outside ?
Also might be worth adding some fishing line and hooks/nets/snare wire in case you are out longer than you intend, they take up very little space and give you a chance of catching more food.
Looking good

Re: My BOB
If I had to leave home, I'd be taking a lot more stuff with me, that's just the BOB i chuck in the car every day, I'm never more then feet away from my car, but if I had to leave the car? I'm gona have to sort out some thing, coz I've also got a tent, bedding, stove, and would need to carry more food, I need a bigger rucsack

Re: My BOB
Yes cc I have got all that, just not in that that bag, it's only a 35lr? school bag type thing, I need a bigger one, coz like I said, if I couldn't take the car which holds a lot of stuff, I'd be stuffed or at least broken from trying to carry it all.
I've also got a range of tools and weapons I'd need with me, so I need another plan.

Re: My BOB
It's a trade off between space and weight, I just traded up from a 60L fleabay special to an 80L Pro Forces bag which is excellent. I needed to get a bigger bag to try and condense all the kit for 2 people into one bag (to last a minimum of 72 hours fairly comfortably). I almost had a heart attack when I tried lifting it
. It made me think a lot about what was really important and what wasnt.
My car bag is a similar size to yours though and would be ok for 2 people for a couple of nights at a push.

Re: My BOB
Guess I'm buying clothes with more pockets in future thenNorthern Raider wrote:OK lets look at this logically
two MREs, two energy bars OK
Paracord / bungees OK
FAK OK
Black bags OK
Food book can you just photocopy or scan the p[ages your likely to use
Hot water bottle must go, get a pocket chemical hand warmer pack
Tarp and survival blankets and two small blankets !!!!! Naa, get a lightweight watereprrof micro sleeping bag.
Maps....... go in your pocket not in your bag
Antiseptic wash, Wet wipes AND loo roll, Just keep the wet wipes lose the bog rol and anti septic wash. wet wipes and a tiny bar of soap from a travel lodge is enough.
FA manual, read it, learn it leave it behind, get a printed card withn the essentials on.
Mirror OK
Tea candles and Light sticks , loose tea candles get two more lightsticks . LIght sticks go in your pocket not your bag.
sewing kit OK
Drinks kit ideally should be in a jacket pocket not in bag
Glasses go in pocket unless spare.
bite sting relief in pocket
Radio OK but tiny micro radio can be better in your pocket or even part of your cewllphone and still in your pocket.
Wet wipes discussed further up, loose bog roll.
Torch 100% absolutely totally only ever goes on your body or in your pocket or on your belt.
Dump binos get a monocular, you can often seperate binos into two sections.
Blankets discussed further back
2 jumpers !!!! dress ideally should be base layer micro fleece or polycotton t shirt, fleece mid section, heavy multi pocket fleece or g tex outer.
Gloves hat OK
Shades, puritabs go on person
bottle of water, add water puristraw
dump spoon make or buy spork
Gas mask !!!!
Knife, watch, compass, lighter, multi tool, flashlight, cellphone, spare batts for flashlight go in your pockets.
Try this thought Magz, You and child are getting out of dodge, Nasty person steals or causes you to abandon your rucksack and run like hell. Suddenly you find yourself wanting to survive with only what you have on your person.................. Thats why EDC essentials go on your person and NEVER in your bag.
