I would love a dog unfortunately my lifestyle precludes it. One week in 5 I am in Copenhagen and one week in 5 I am in Brussels. Mrs Lee is a violinist so she is away on tour quite often or in London. Granddad lives quite close but he is getting on and my parents moved to Eire in the 90's. It would no be fair to an animal.

When I was a younger I had a Jack Russell terrier that went to university with me. He used to curl up under my chair during lectures, I even managed to get him into a cinema once. Happy times.

i wouldn't be without a dog, we have a Cairn Terrier bitch at the moment, but have had various in the past, Airedale, Poodle, Black and Tan, 2 other Cairns and a couple of Jack Russells, i do favour Terriers though, once the balloon goes down you will probably need a dog, even if just for a guard dog for you and yours.

Second the motion - no airguns please!!!! if it where your pet you would not be happy

Water works well. I have cats but have the same problem with my newly dug veg patch and flower beds etc. also have foxes coming in the garden as well -year before last most of tulips disappeared because they kept digging up the bulbs and playing football with them

Put some wire mesh over but raise it like a cage so they wont be tempted to sit on it and still try and take a dig at it or a squat and take a pooh that worked fine last year and all my veg and flowers came up a treat this year - I removed the cage when the plants were well established by then the cats are usually not bothered because it they associate with a no-go area. :D

I have the same problem in my garden....

My method

I have worked out which cat belongs to which house..... a trowel and a flick of the wrist and calling card returned.

Not 100% sure each cat owner gets their cat's deposits back but not my concern
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Have just arrived home and there are seven of the blighter's sat around the garden looking at me.

I have heaved a clod of earth their way (Thanks Paul) and they scattered.

5 minutes later they are back and have brought a friend with them.

Roll on the weekend when the nephew will bring his super soaker.

Seven! Yikes..... :o

Looks like the best thing to do is try and prevent them getting to your veg in the first place as suggested in a few threads. Good luck with it.

My little bundle of joy actually comes back into the house to use the litter tray. She's VERY well trained.

An American survivalist friend of mine has sent me details of a home made tazer utilising the flash circuit from a cheap disposable camera to boost the output of a AAA battery to a non-lethal but shocking 35,000 volts. Now, If I were to connect this to some chicken wire laid down in the cats favourite digging place I'm sure that I can get them jumping at least 6 feet vertically.

Actually this is getting a bit like Jasper Carrot and the mole..........

Perhaps I had better lie down in a darkened room......repeat 'they are not trying to hurt you, do not lash out'......Nurse, Nurse, the screens...................

Pseudonym - I originally read trowel as towel, boy did that get me scratching my head.
