I'm a huge book fan so there are too many to decide a favourite. One that stuck in my mind for years after I'd read it was Dan Simmons 'Carrion Comfort' and I've never met anyone else who has read it.
I read a lot of horror but this one scared me...it's about 'mind vampires', creatures with the psychic ability to 'use' humans; read their minds, subjugate them to their wills, and force them to acts of violence. It's a bit of an epic, ranging from Nazi Germany to the present, but I'd like to hear anyone elses opinions on it.

Jim Butchers Dresden Files have to be bigged up. Wonderful characters, neat tales, all about Chicago's only professional wizard. Ignore the TV re-write for Sci Fi.
Wyndhams The Kraken Wakes. Christopher Priests Fuge For A Darkening Island
Most Pratchets, Guy Gavriel Kays stories (took me a while to get reading them because of the authors name but each series manages to get this Ogre reaching for the tissues) (NO, NOT IN THAT WAY
)
Tom Sharpes early stuff, when his writing was vitrolic as well as crude. Nurses actually took Riotous Assembly off me after an op in case I burst the stitches through laughing.
David Eddings, the only ink I've had done based on an authors books.
Simon R. Green, everything from the poignant Shadows Fall, to the raucous Secret Histories and Night Side volumes not forgetting the completely OTT kick arse Bluemoon tales.
And ooodles more

Ive read 'death of grass' countless times, brilliant. A wrinkle in the skin was really good too.
Ive never been one for 'scifi' but have read twice and am currently half way through again 'Peace and war'. Really superb read.

eh Dizzy i vaguely remember carrion comfort , was a disturbing book quite a lot of pages, Masterton wrote a similar book called Night chills , but that was more subliminal coercion. Lumleys vampire books are also quite dark. me i like terry brooks, reacher novels, harry bosch novels, neal asher.. to name but a few

wow Dazz...someone who has read the Simmons book!
I've still not got any Masterton and that's the second recommendation now.
I must say, from a prepping pov I like the Kindle. I managed to get one using my Tesco vouchers and it's nice to know that if tshtf and I had to bug out, I could have a good selection of books on there ready to go. It would probably be better if I had a solar charger to go with it.....theres always something else to go on the list!
