Cooked a nice bit of (yellow sticker) beef for tea and as I pulled the roasting tray out of the oven it slipped and the liquid poured over my foot. Had my Magnum boots on and not barefoot thank goodness but the liquid seeped through the tongue and my sock, threw the boots off stuck my foot in some cold water and then put a burns dressing on. Hopefully, it wont be too bad tomorrow, still a little painful but may not be able to get any footwear on. Will stock up on more burns dressings now too.
Ouch bet the boots took a lot of heat out of the fat/ oil / gravy.. one job I had we got issued welding boots they had a chopstick type pin that secured one half the lace rings.. should you get slag or splatter in your boot you yanked the pin and the boot came off in seconds... Just think if you was barefoot or in trainers

Sorry to hear that, Medusa, hope tomorrow is okay.

It's a really good point though - burns aren't solely scalded fingers from hot pans, some spilled fat spreads damage over a wide area, and dressings need to be appropriately sized, and in appropriate numbers. And they need to be at home, right where you need them - imagine queuing at an A&E, maybe in winter time. My brother waited 2 x 10 hours one weekend recently (he refused to stay in, went home and came back first thing in the morning), and the nurse told him it was a quiet day.

EEk! That sounds bad but could have been much worse if it had splashed your leg or bare feet.
Hope you cooled it in time.

Just goes to show how dangerous expired food can be :)

If you have a burn NHS advice is to phone a minor injuries unit or urgent care or whatever they call it at your nearest hospital. It's not A&E. But they do burns. GPs do not. I got boiling water on my hand last year. Had to get it dressed where I was at the time (not in Manchester) and checked a week later in Manchester. I think there is a criteria based on size of burned area. The system is a bit of a faff, and to get it checked I had to be at Urgent Care at Trafford when they opened at 8 am, as you can't really get an appointment. I was seen very quickly, anyway.

Any burn bigger than the palm of the victim's hand should be assessed by a medic as this is the point at which they can be more serious than just damaged skin.
We caused some bemusement to our very unprepped sister in law one year when eldest burnt his arm on a Tilley lantern while camping with them. The bemusement was because we not only knew the first aid for the burn but had some appropriately sized dressings in the FAK. She couldn't get her head around the idea that we had packed them, knew how to use them and that the problem was therefore not a major incident.
(The burn was in the shape of the lantern's brand name - literally branded on his arm which got some "cool" points when he went back to school before it faded.)

Hope you heal well and soon.

Good job on knowing what to do and having the supplies to treat it.

I used the Sainsbury's Diwali offers to add another 10Kg of rice & 5Kg lentils to the stash.
Younger son cooks s mostly "rice 'n beans" type meals. He has identified that he needs to eat much larger portions in order to get adequate calories, protein etc with this type of diet.
As our longer term emergency supplies are strongly rice 'n beans based I have used his information and adjusted the number of portions I can expect to get from the supplies.
e.g. I was working on 50g red lentils per person per meal which is what I currently serve if I cook dahl but son is currently eating 100g per meal. Likewise for rice portions.

Thanks everyone, my foot is fine just a straight row of very red dots where the liquid went through my boot eyelets. As someone else mentioned when I told colleagues what had happened they could not believe that I carry burns dressings in my home first aid kit.

When you see the government advice to have. "First aid kit" then you see the kits in Boots / savers / generic pharmacy/ home bargains.. you'd be better off with a blue roll and some electricians tape  talk about a false sense of security the case is the best bit :tinfoil

Incidentally Lidl have the German car FAKits coming up for a £5 it's a good starter kit for those with a little knowledge nothing swanky but a good supply of dressings and bandages in a half decent zip up case
