The contents of my fridge freezer (that would spoil) are probably only worth £200 and I've just been to Sainsburys.
So one powercut at yours and the price is now £800?
I'm not sure if that's really clever accounting or really daft
But given that I live in the middle of a town and have only had a couple of (short) power cuts in the last 30 years, I'l take a chance.
Then some like persud NEED a working fridge diabetic insulin needs to be kept chilled the £1k Vs no medication and death seems cheap in a big power cut local pharmacys will loose their stock . We've not had a cut for about a year and a half but my mate a few miles away has had 3 power cuts this week one of the cuts was off from 17:45 and finally restored at 5:30am
Looking forward to this winter I think the more we can do the better as it's going to be a bumpy ride from any angle you look at it
If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong
Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine
For under a grand you can get a 240v/12v/Propane chest freezer, half that for a refrigerator; I have one of each in the garage for emergency backup. The freezer runs for about 3 weeks on a standard 11kg cylinder, around 3 months on a 47kg cylinder and I fire them both up for a day or two a month. Well worth looking at to keep your options open.
