Hello
Hi all… just joined so new to the group and to prepping though been thinking about it for a long time. I’m ex army so used to have some basic skills; getting old now though and don’t practice self sufficiency much, even post Covid. Thought I’d read and learn rather than invent square wheels all of my own.

Hi and welcome.
As you'll observe, prepping isn't all about bushcraft and being Bear Grylls.
It might start as simple as stashing £200 and a few grocery's under your bed, or learning how to harvest water, or electricity.
I look forward to what you contribute. Don't be shy.

Ad Blue
Hi All,
Since joining the group I’ve done a bit of reading and the world at large has done little to persuade me that doing nothing might still be a good idea.
I’ve decided to prep for staying home no matter what the world brings, and to start my research into both water and fire; 2 fairly fundamental things we take for granted despite the issues over the past week. My efforts with flint and steel are another story, but for now…
In an effort to not buy more plastic products I’ve been considering how to store water. I have a disused well in my garden which is about to get some attention but in the meantime have been considering other containers… I have some beer making stuff that could be used for a start, but this week had to put some ad blue in my van which has now left me with a container that looks like it should have a second life.
Does anyone know what ad-blue actually is and whether it would be safe to store water in this container? The labels states it is non hazardous then gives advice about seeking medical attention if spilt into eyes.
In an effort to survive better, self poisoning seems like a mis-step, any budding bio chemists able to chip in and educate me and maybe save a bit more of the planet (or my own early demise)?

Re: Hello
Maybe I should be buying the storage containers from Amazon, peeing in my ad-blue tank and saving a tenner all round… what a crazy construct we inhabit… apparently pig urine is used massively in lots of different product… who has the job of collecting this??Pee extract?
Ultimately though it sounds like with good washing out and sterilisation the container should be usable, just have to wonder about any toxicity from the plastic itself. My wife is convinced plastic leaches into stored products over time, especially liquids; does anyone know about this?
I’d assume some mild toxicity is better over a few weeks than no water at all in any case!

Re: Hello
Do not initially use bleach based cleaners to sterilise the bottle it will react causing explosive nitrogen trichloride
