Hello

Post by GeoffDann »

I am surprised I have not come across this forum before. I have been collapse aware since my late teens, and I am currently 56. I write books for a living, including the most comprehensive guide to European fungi foraging ever published in English. I now live on a smallholding in West Wales, which is prepped reasonably well. We keep mixed poultry, are self sufficient in wood, have planted an orchard, etc...

I have two websites (there is a story why, but I won't relate it here).

I am also the author of a book about realism and ecocivilisation.

** I have removed the links to your website and book. You can put those in your sig but not in the main body of our posts. Thank you and welcome. **

Hi Geoff. I think anyone who's looked into fungi books will have heard of you. Nice to see you on here, there are no other fungi experts on here to my knowledge. I tried to learn some, and it's not easy!

We have had a thread on ecocivilisation, but I don't think any of us know that much about it really.

That is partly why I chose it as the subject to write a book about. It isn't accidental that almost nobody knows about it in the West, because the very existence of such a topic raises questions that those in power don't want people to even ask, let alone answer.

Also, given that it was a concept invented in the Soviet Union and now being popularised by the Chinese Communist Party, it is quite difficult for non-deep-thinking people to accuse me of "ecofascism".

Those in power want corporate profits protected, so ecocivilisation is not something they want to promote.

They want to be viewed as green, but they openly chase economic growth. a
And they covertly chase more wealth for the wealthy, at the expense of the poor, which is not on any progressive or scientific green agenda.

Ecofascism would have fascist traits such as reactionary views and ultranationalism, as well as authoritarianism.

It isn't just them. Very few people are really willing to face reality - not if it means they have to think seriously about changing their beliefs, or the way they live their lives.

I agree. The term "ecofascism" is much abused. It is a real thing. It is what happens when actual fascists become hardcore environmental realists, and the classic example from history was the Nazi party of Germany before Hitler got rid of all the eco-fascists as it became clear that Germany was going to lose the war. The story is told well in https://www.amazon.co.uk/Ecofascism-Rev ... B07BFJ1WZ2. Behaving in an ecologically responsible manner just isn't compatible "total war".

Ecological realism is not fascism.
