My own med supply is quite extensive, not because myself or any of my family have any on going medical issues, more of a "what-if" situation. And if push comes to shove and the end of the world or societal breakdown does happen, you're just not getting a Dr's appointment.
I will say that what most people generally forget about, is.. Sex. The pill, condoms, the clap, yeast infections, thrush etc.
I do mainly focus on preventative measures, like antibiotics, fever, pain, blood pressure, asthma, antimalarial, worms, TB, COPD, epilepsy and other seizure based illnesses, even cancer.
When the shit hits the fan, even a simple cut or graze, without the right treatment can send you on a downward spiral.
The Home Medicine Cabinet.
Re: The Home Medicine Cabinet.
If you are thinking about having no access to GPs or hospitals you may want a copy of "Where there is no doctor", an emergency dental kit and a traveller's sutures "sterile" kit.
I have not gone as far as the latter but I do carry steri-strips and larger dressings for the borderline hospital size injuries.

Re: The Home Medicine Cabinet.
I'm past the age of needing contraception but do stock non branded thrush treatment including the oral tablet, atheletes foot stuff, different kinds of antiseptic creams germolene, sudacreme etc and a few essential oils so clove oil for toothache, lavender for anxiety, sleep etc. Also tea tree oil which is useful for some skin conditions and was the only thing that prevented my children getting head lice when there were issues at primary school. You need to finish antibiotics so I never have any spare and cant buy them OTC so no stocks of those. I have the other usual things rehydration sachets, pain killers, tweezers of various kinds, bite and sting cream, thermometer, blood pressure machine, saline pods, dressings and a medical kit I bought for people travelling abroad which contains various IV needles and needles for injection. Wouldnt know how to use them, but somebody might be trained. I also have an emergency dental kit. Most importantly I have a basic first aid training.
Growing old disgracefully!
Re: The Home Medicine Cabinet.
I've got a fair few different emergency dental kits, and have a full suture kit. Even bought a little training "arm" to practice on which worked perfectly well.
Re: The Home Medicine Cabinet.
On the topic of herbal medicines we have checked out some of the claims and concluded the following, all for items taken a food sized quantities (i.e. not oils unless stated)
Ginger is a fantastic anti nausea treatment as ginger beer or a pinch of dried powder mixed in honey.
Lemon Balm tea is very good mild anti anxiety and anti viral. The essential oil also seems to clear warts & verrucas but dyes your skin orange and can cause allergic reactions.
Vicks Vapour Rub works to keep feet clear of athletes foot applied maybe once a month. I think it is the camphor and thymethat does the trick.
Clove is a good antifungal. Clove tea made with 4 or 5 cloves and taken every few hours seems to be pretty effective. Clove oil is traditionally used as a dental treatment but is too strong for most use.
Elderberry is reputedly anti-viral but I think lemon balm may be better.

Re: The Home Medicine Cabinet.
Just a wee remedy I use to keep the cold at bay over winter.
Belvoir Ginger Beer cordial.
Hot water.
Honey.
And a double of blended whisky.
Have one a night and it will keep most bugs away!

Oooh. I think I feel a cold coming on right now!

Re: The Home Medicine Cabinet.
Here it is lashings of a rakija based fruit compote on your morning porridge to get you warmed up and ready for the bitter winter days.
Works a treat.
Re: The Home Medicine Cabinet.
I actually have porridge in the morning. If it’s in the pot, water and salt and a clockwise stir, if it’s in my travel mug, just hot water and honey with milk. Yeah I can hear my ancestors shouting at me for that one!
