a recent 200 mile round journey to the 'local' surplus store

Post by Bournemouthprepper »

Hello all!

Since things have been a bit patchy for me recently, i decided to take a nice long drive, and what better destination than a army surplus store!

My two purchases: a Sig Sauer p229 Co2 pistol, and a pistol crossbow 80lb. the co2 pistol, beautiful! love it to peices, and if the shtf couple of those steel pellets in the leg and no-one will be chasing you!

the pistol crossbow, i'm having trouble just to feed the string! and the arrows are very sharp, sharp enough to hunt or worse :O

I have a the Gamo P23 CO2 Pistol but i'm pretty sure that they are roughly around the same power. While it is a good little air pistol and good fun you would be better off throwing it at zombies post fall rather than trying to shoot them with it :D

I know you were only making a light hearted comment and i'm not having a go, honest :D , but if you point a CO2 pistol at someone (post fall obviously), especially one that looks like a real pistol, you are raising the stakes and subsequent response to a lethal level but your CO2 pistol would probably be only slightly more effective than a spud gun.

thats when you break out the crossbow, im suprised the arrows it came with are legal, their sharp enough to peirce skin by just proding your finger on it, not bad for £25

if you mean putting the string on in the first place,
then the answer is make a string slightly longer than the one that came with it with para cord,
cock it, slip the right string on and fire it,
and remove or cut away the para cord one,
job sorted.

@Bournemouthprepper -Having had experience of the real 226 I would be interested in reading about your experiences with the CO2 version. How do you rate it? What's the accuracy like? How many shots do you get for one CO2 bulb? I would also be interested to know how much and where from? :D

I know that's a lot of questions but I'm considering getting one of these myself and would appreciate your info. :D

I believe one of the issues with the co2 models is that one you have started a bulb you have to finish them off i.e. I understand this to mean they vent slowly so if you dont use them whatever is left goes to waste. This is the main reason I am drawn to the spring or even pneumatic models rather than co2. Anyone know if this is correct?

Thats the case with mine. When I first bought it i used it for a few shots to test it, put it away for a couple of days and when I went back to for another "plink" it was empty.

the one ive got is brilliant, accurate and powerful, kick is alot more than i expected. the co2 is supposed to last around 60 shots, im currently on about 70 and its still going fine. with the escape of co2, hasnt happened with this pistol, or my co2 air rifle. co2 capsule has been in for about 2 weeks, 70 shots fired and still going strong. as with the rifle, 2 12g co2 capsules have lastest around 100 shots and have been left in there for over 3 months now, maybe more.

The pistol i have was £140 from crawley surplus store, the website is:

that link will take you to the page of the co2 pistol i brought.

I use a DruLov DU 10 for rapid fire practice, 5 pellets in semi-automatic. I bought this when my 0.22" short Pardini was taken in, in the handgun ban. £300ish in competition standard.

Why people would want to shoot two handed or with red dot sights on one confuses me. It would be like putting a Halford's spoiler on a Ferrari.

It is full UTI specification and up to Olympic standards (it, not me, unfortunately) and very challenging.

I always use a new bulb for each practice session to standardise conditions, then blow it down afterwards to preserve the seals.

Anyone who uses or even points a 6ftlb pistol at someone else deserves all they get in response whatever the conditions at the time
