Manual Transfer Switch

Post by GeraldTheBonzai »

Anyone got any idea how much it would / should cost to get a manual transfer switch fitted?

We have a generator and was considering getting it set up such that I could use it to power essential items. Mainly central heating, fridge / freezer and a bit of light.

Depends where your meter is and where you plan to feed your generator into the house from.... and if you need a 2 pole or 3 pole switch some earthing systems require the earth disconnecting too as the nuteral and earth are joined in the service fuse

Basic manual the parts are cheap but it's the cost of the man....

If your roughing it, Your doing it wrong ;)

Lack of planning on your part doesn't make it an emergency on mine

It depends on your home's wiring and how many circuits you want to connect, but typically in the UK you're looking at around £300–£700 for supply and installation. That includes a manual transfer switch and labour. If your consumer unit is modern and accessible, it might be on the lower end. Best to get a few quotes from local electricians.
