Most domestic microwaves reduce their power output by switching their full power (800 Watts say) on and off for varying times. This is quite a demand for a battery driven inverter and the constant on/off switching plays hobb with the control circuits.
I am told that there are some models of microwave available that adjust their power output by varying the magnetron output instead. I.E. if the microwave is set for low power the magnetron is on all the time but only at say 150 Watts. Such a microwave could then be used directly from a decent inverter from a battery with no problems and be a readily usable standby cooker.
My problem:
Who are the manufactures and which models are of the second type? it does not seem to appear in the sales literature.
How can I tell without using the microwave and listening to see if it turns itself on and off on low power?

I think the only manufacturer at the moment that does the domestic constant/variable power microwaves is Panasonic (could be wrong), they call them Inverter Microwave Ovens. I have seen a few others which are big commercial kitchen and industrial process types that already use this kind of microwave tech. The pulsed/sliced power domestic ovens are cheaper to manufacture than inverter types at the moment. It probably wont be long before all the other manufacturers jump on the inverter microwave band wagon and prices will start to come down. Just do a search for ' inverter microwave oven ' and look at the shopping results, you should be able to find what your looking for there.

Re: Microwave Power.
Perfect answer and in your first post too. Thank you and welcome.
I find it annoying when all I need is a keyword and I can't find it, "Inverter Microwave Ovens" is the key to unlocking my problem and I was thinking that after a few null posts (hate them) I was lost in an advertising jungle.
P.S. you had better introduce yourself in the 'New Members Start Here' section or you will get yelled at.
