If funds are tight a cheap option is a visit to the local Army Surplus Store. I picked up a pair of lightly used "Para" Boots for £20 about 4 years ago and they are still going strong. They are heavy (compared to modern civi boots) but as I wear steel toe caps to work everyday I dont really notice it. I use them mainly on the motorbike and also did plenty of walking in them in France recently and they were fine. Keep them looked after and they will maintain a fair level of of waterproofing, mine got absolutely soaked a couple of times last week and didnt leak at all...unlike my other more expensive waterproof gear
They also come with the added bonus that someone else has broken them in for you

Re: Boots
Wifey got me a pair of these for my birthday a couple of weeks back.
Not worn them for any long walks yet but they are very comfy.

At £20 you can't argue and mine looked they had never been worn.
Be lucky (and tinea pedis free)

Re: Boots
I'm with the guys who have mentioned the surplus army boots so far, ive got a couple of pairs and theyre all great, you can get gtx versions of them too that are alot cheaper than buying them new on civi street (often made by han wag or lowa but just not labelled as such). Having said that though, if you were after a pair of new ones, ive got the lowa combat gtx, same as the mountain but slightly a higher boot, they are warm in summer as stated by others but not uncomfortably so and ive gotta say they are a cracking pair of boots, had them five years now, look after them and they will last so so long, they are my babies, they get cleaned and treated everytime theyve been used
lol
