Solar Garden Lights

Post by Triple_sod »

As a young’un me and a few mates used to camp out in the local woods quite a bit, and one night we managed to lose our tent. Yes we were drunk...and in this state one of the lads hit on an idea to stop it happening again. So off he trots and half an hour later he’s back with arms filled with those solar garden lights he’d errrm.... acquired. They worked really well and from then on we used to leave them charging up in a secluded spot and retrieve them when we needed them.

Anyway years later when I started prepping I remembered that and thought they are a pretty decent source of alternative light;

Obviously because they are solar all you have to do is leave them outside to charge up and you’re away. I suppose after a certain amount of time either the battery or bulb would go, but you’d probably get at least a year out of them.

They’re cheap to buy, I’ve sure I’ve seen them for under a fiver at some places.

and as much as I like my hurricane lamp, it’s basically a Molotov cocktail on a piece of wire, and I wouldn’t be that comfortable using it around the house night after night. Whereas with a solar light there are no safety hazards, in fact they are pretty tough if you drop them or knock them over.

Seems im not the only one with that idea.

I have about a dozen lights charge the batteries once or twice a year then they just stay outside and if we need light during a power cut we have just placed the in front of mirrors in the living room and bathroom
plus if you up grade the batteries you have a constant charge going in to them when the sun is out so for the price you cannot go wrong
