Ordered some D size rechargeables as I don't have those but I have a torch and a set of fairy lights that use them. Like Mad Scientist, I'm topping up first aid and pet food reserves. Done a stock rotation this week and found some tins of mandarins that were best before November 21 so they need to be eaten now and replaced. I like those as prep food as they are canned in a sugar syrup so good for an energy boost and are a source of vit c and they are fairly cheep. And pretty tasty for tinned fruit! Also found some baked beans that went out of date so they need to be used pronto too - feel a corned beef hash coming to use up those beans - that'll use a can of corned beef before it goes out of date too :D

Can't seem to concentrate just now, as a mother of sons, life has become strange as we think of what other mothers are currently going through and we try to imagine how we would cope. Brain going at a 100miles an hour constantly :? .. When in doubt buy food so will head to lidl later. tried to work on the wood pile in preparation for next winter but wind making me dizzy so had to give that up. Trying to plan even more self-sufficency for the future.

I think in times like this we need to keep the head down and focus on our own wee patch of life, try and sort things for us and our families etc. If you start thinking in the wider term then its too worrying, and we can't help anyway. Just my view of it.
The other thing is that Russia has done this before, I can remember them going into Poland in the 80s to finish off Solidarity, and they pulled out again so I'm hoping they do the same this time.
I've doubled the Sainsbugs order for tomorrow - it's annoying because they aint the cheapest shop around, but we aren't fit or strong enough just now to go trekking round Aldi etc.

Project Tidy-up is being thrown by me feeling rotten. It started when I was out with my Mum earlier and it feels like I'm coming down with flu. So I have a covid test cooking (see, stocking up on them is a damn fine idea! ). I was able to pick up some of the storage stuff I ordered, so I'm surrounded by a variety of empty plastic, but with no energy to do anything with it! I also did an emergency booze run. All done wearing an FFP2 mask so I would be less likely to plague anyone else, no matter what it was.

PS: plague test cooked and it's negative, phew! I'll just have a bit of a rest this afternoon and see if I can do anything this evening.

That is so true lil. Nothing we can do about the big stuff at all. I’ll be honest, right now I couldn’t give a flying **** about the rest of the world. My back is up to its usual tricks ,which is very debilitating,to say the least. More seriously though,Mrs J ,tripped over one of our terriers on Thursday night, and went face first into a door.I kid you not. She has broken her nose ,got eyes like a panda ,and bruising up her left side. Prepping tip: make sure you have plenty of painkillers in storage - I am glad we have!

The world will keep turning,I’m sure.

My commiserations to Mrs J.MrGB broke his nose just before Christmas and it is no joke.

We seem to run through painkillers around here. MrGB has arthritis and gets them from the doc. The worry is always, what would happen if there is a supply snarl. He has a small stash as his usage varies from month to month but would really struggle without good pain relief.

Research suggests a couple of UK growable herbal remedies are very effective. Practical experiments are off limits as both are illegal to play with in the UK. Still it is all good to know if things ever get really bad.

Lil, I start with ‘offers’ on the Sainsbury’s site and base my meal plan around that! Usually save up to a quarter on my shop!

Oooh never tried that hobo - I just stick to the same stuff every week. I'll have a look at the offers now.

My oldest friend’s wife developed multiple sclerosis some years ago. She had ,only six months previously ,given birth to the twins. She had a lot of pain and mobility issues.Simon did some research and found a common type of pain relief, the type that criminals grow in loft spaces!

Now I do not condone illegalities. Let’s be clear on that one. Simon asked me to advise him on horticultural matters. Let’s just say that his wife was able to control her pain and neurological problems ( pretty much) until she passed away.Pain relief, along with infection control have to be cornerstones of medicine.

No access to pain relief doesn’t bear thought.
