Has anyone had any experience with Portable Power Packs? If so, what would you recommend?

I use several!

I have one charging now from solar panels.
The Powerplus Gazelle (now replaced by the Powerplus Elephant) http://www.glow.co.uk/powerplus-elephan ... ation.html The Gazelle has better capabilities to the Weza inc a USB output.
The Xantrex Xpower 400 and 175. Think these are both discontinued so eBay will be your only option. http://www.caravantechnology.com/Powerpacks-C11.aspx say that they are bringing out their own versions this year. The 175 isn't up to much but the 400 has the most power of all the above. Both can be recharged from the wall or by solar.
Halfords also do Powerpacks though I'm not familiar with them.
Don't expect to run anything power-hungry on powerpacks. When I use them, it's to recharge my laptop, 13w utube or wind-up lanterns, AA/AAA batteries, iPods etc.

I have had no luck with the ones with jumpleads! so instead i use a 12V 7AH lead acid battery with a 12V car socket attached! tested it on my tv which is around 100w which it runs for an hour! apart from that i just use it to charge my phone and it does a months then i top it up!
