Good job I looked at this, wasn't aware the laws had changed! I've been shooting rabbits for my local golf club for the past couple of years with both cheap and more expensive air rifles and in my opinion it's all down to practice and more practice, it doesn't matter if you've spent £1000 on a top of the range rifle if you can't shoot straight best bed is to buy an affordable rifle and join a shooting club to get familiar with it, so that if you ever do need to shoot at bunnies or birds for food you can be confident in a clean humane kill.

I have a Weihrauch HW97K Thumbhole .177 cal, great build, good distance, and works a treat on small game. Its worth spending the extra money for a good air riffle.

For the money they make a great product, I went with the .177 as it has a much flatter trajectory.

I can’t believe the good old BSA Lightning hasn’t had a mention, it really is a great gun. Simple to use, nice bit of power and not a bad price either. Got mine as a Christmas present, 6-7 years ago, and it’s never given me any problems.

I still don't really understand why bow hunting is illegal

I’m not sure what argument was put forward at the time, most likely something along the lines of ‘bow hunting is crueller’ or ‘anyone can have a bow, therefore anyone could call themselves a bow hunter’. Basically though it would have been hard for them not to in the face of the argument from the ‘antis’ of ‘yes but you could just use a rifle’. Bow hunters then, haven’t got a leg to stand on, as just as with those who hunt with dogs they have already committed the cardinal sin on our society of ‘making hunting more fun’....

Eventually TPTB will outlaw airguns-just a matter of time IMO. I am currently developing my skill with catapults-and before you knock it-I took a pigeon AND a cock pheasant this morning(out of season oh dear!)It's quite a nifty way to go out foraging in your area.

Pheasants here would walk into your oven, they're so tame. They just wander over from the pens in the woods and think any human = food. Poor wee sods.
