Idea that I'd appreciate some comments on...

Post by beefy0978 »

Apologies, I didn't quite know where to put this thread so please feel free to move to a better location if appropriate...

I had an idea today whilst slumped over my desk at work that might interest some of the more adventurous among you.

An adventure day / weekend!

Nothing new there you say well read on please.

It’s scenario based. The S has HTF and you have to leave town. You can bring anything you like with you. The only rule (on trust) is that you have 30 minutes to pack the bag / car / truck / lorry. You should all be ready anyway! This must be your genuine BOB stuff. This is a test of whether it works. Your Euro Camping tent and burners might stand out to the others just a little...

Other members of your prepping group will be in the same boat and you will all meet at the prearranged secret location.

Night 1: This is as comfortable as it can be. The group decides who keeps watch.; who cooks; who’s food you cook! The team dynamic begins to form. You’ve got everything you brought with you.

Day 1: Your camp drew attention and it’s time to move to your safe location. This would involve negotiating a prearranged route by vehicle and on foot. Will you stick together or split up into smaller groups. As best you can you must avoid bumping into ‘strangers’ that may be hostile.

Night 2: Your tiring day ends when you reach safe haven. Where some of your group will have already arrived and set up the barbecue with enough food and alcohol to cause everyone to sleep in late the following day before rejoining reality once again...

Is this long enough??? Night 2 could be involve more hardship with maybe some skinning of rabbits etc., or a longer walk to make everyone really tired. But one night gets everything unpacked and forces you to carry it to see if it’s comfy. The lure of safe haven should put the pressure on the group. Will the slower ones be carried??? Are you carrying too much kit???

On the up side most of us could survive 24 hrs with no kit at all so there should be minimal risk involved.

Any ideas, comments or interest would be welcome. Just don’t laugh too loud! ;)

Oh wow that sounds fantastic. Much better than a tame boring wee meetup, if we ever got around to it !
But I very much fear that I'm one of the ones who would end up being carried !

It sounds like a workable idea to me too, I like it.

This was quite a serious idea that I'd be willing to put together for late summer? I was hoping the Bournemouth lad might enjoy one last foray in green to maybe give me a hand with some planning and sort some sensible locations???

Obviously this would be kept legal. No guns or arrows allowed. Plenty of notice given to sort shelter and boots depending on how adventurous you want to be.

This is really a gathering with an opportunity to try out the gear for real.

If I can get 10 people keen then it'll be worth the effort!

I will just find a nearby nice 5* hotel, with big fluffy white towels and room service, and - sigh - tough it out there, but be with you in spirit. All the way. 8-)

In theory it sounds great, but not all of us are in the position where we are ready to bug out at a moment's notice. I don't have camping gear and doubt I will have had the readies to purchase what I need by summer. I don't even have BOB yet as I am still in the first throes of my prepping journey. Another consideration would have to be location. I know that I wouldn't want to have to hoof it down to the South West coast as it will cost me over £100 in petrol. I don't mean in any way to be a killjoy as it does sound good but I just don't think it's workable for me, personally, right now.

Prep on chaps (and chapesses)!!! :D

I think it's a great idea, and we are getting more members all the time so you never know.
