A good feeling when I got to 30 days water supply.

Over the last couple of weeks I have stored 40 litres of bottled water. Aldi does a bottled still spring water for 17p for 2 litres so I've been buying that up. I'm just clearing out my junk room of a cellar to provide extra storage space and am returning to vegetable gardening after a long break as I have a very long garden. I've got camping equipment already so have pulled together all the things I think might come in useful in any situation and have 3 underbed storage boxes filled with tinned and dried foods, including rice and pasta.
I have one rain barrel and have just ordered some water purification tablets but mostly planned on using the water from the barrel for non drinking/cooking purposes, I have a firepit and a barbecue. I have a huge open fireplace in the house but unfortunately I have been told by the chimney sweep that this will need lining before it could be used again. I'm up for tackling most things but I don't do heights so getting on my roof to install a flue liner isn't in the cards for the time being!

Tesco also sell 1L bottles for 17p, although strangely enough you're more likely to draw attention than say buying a single 5L bottle or a pack of 6 x 2L bottles. I guess it's the amount of bottles that draws attention, not the volume.

I frequently buy 18 x 2 litre bottles plus a case of 500 ml bottles and nobody bats an eyelid.
IF your chimney is sound, you do not have to have it lined. However,if a chimney professional such as a sweep recommends a liner, then you would be foolish in the extreme to ignore him.
Woodburners in themselves do not produce tar/creosote ( an open fire is the same) but burning wood that is not properly seasoned DOES.Also, burning at low temperature causes a tar built up.The old timers were scared to death of chimney fires and never really let the fire 'rip' up the chimney( which burns off soot) so they actually got worse built ups of tar/soot! The modern thinking is to let it really rip up the chimney at some point each time.I do this with both stoves, sweep regularly and do not burn crap wood or coal.
Once again,I would take the advice of your sweep. If you ever saw a chimney fire ( like the one my neighbour had last year - through burning crap) let alone experienced it,it would scare you half to death.

If a professional has told moggins it needs lining, then so be it.There is no way that this site will let ( knowingly) dangerous advice be meted out with no qualification. There are modern rules surrounding solid fuel, and for damn good reason!
