Jansman, I 've got no idea what brand mine is but Her Maj bought me it for Xmas a year past and its a cheap and cheerful job, 20 odd quid will get you off the ground. There's the additional expense of getting containers to stow your gains in but that's easily sorted. If its something you're keen to try its a cheap 'hobby' mate.

I have been looking at you tube etc. and I am suffering from information overload! Thanks Decaff and Deeps. You have both pointed me in the right direction.

We have a 9 tray Excaliber, and it's awesome. Anything that looks like it might go off before it gets eaten gets thrown in there, and we do quite a bit of veg & jerky as well.

I posted a couple of links about three pages back, both very handy to have a look at and full of receipes and things. We're currently doing food powders, as well as rice and noodles as those can be made into ready meals and vacuum packed. An easy way to rehydrate meal packs is put the contents in a food flask, add boiling water, put the lid on and wait. You could, if you were hiking, have your evening meal in your pack and ready to eat by the time you stopped at night :)

What kind of food powders are you doing?? This sound intriguing! I have a good amount of tomato powder, garlic powder, onion powder and meat stock powder and would be interested in what you have planned, if you would like to share?

I hope you find a bargain Jansman, it is such a quick way to up food stocks when it's all in season and at its tastiest, I made apple crumble again and adding in home dried fruit makes it extra tasty.

It's official. The Co-Op is my new favourite shop. I just got 4 275g punnets of Mushrooms dated today reduced to 60p each. I cannot find a thing wrong with them, they are still tight and dense and are sliced up and drying away now. :D

Total bargain!! This is where the dehydrator comes in so handy. I've used up my onions so 3 kilos added to the shopping today to get my stocks back up.

Got another 5 trays of onions on the go. These should be ready by the morning to jar up and put in the cupboard.

I have been punting around, and it looks like I will go for the dryer that Decaff uses. Now then... I am totally ignorant here.

Your dried onions, how are they stored and how do you use them? We use a lot of onions here and I can see the value of this.
