Yep, had no issue with mine. It has worked perfectly and have earned it money back several times over. This is not a case of ether/or, its a complementary system to keep your home at an ideal temperature meaning you are not heating from cold and wasting fuel.

I like that :) technology has it's place, some of it is barmy, some of it is lazy and does more harm than good, what humans have to learn is that traditional skills need to be kept alive alongside new innovations, I mean sliced bread is a great convenient thing, so is a bread making machine, but like a lot of us I still need and want to do it the old way sometimes, that way I'll never forget the science behind the process.
I have a strategy, it's not written in stone, nor can it be, this scenario has too many variables, everything about it depends on those variables, being specific is not possible.

Ha ha! old technology still has a place. After cleaning out the two wood stoves this morning, I will make sure there is enough paraffin in the hurricane 'frost' lamp in the outside toilet. And yes that is true!
Then for my dinner I shall be having one of my tame rabbits with Brussels, leeks and carrots from the garden. :D Luddite caveman , me?

The BBC link I put up described something I have never encountered. Now I know it is not a stand alone system ( it can be manually overridden) I say fair enough. Technology has its place, I am typing this on a smart phone! I am personally wary of anything that has to rely on internet based software, but hey that's just me.

Mind you, looking at the snow out there, I wonder if there is an app that can tell me how much paraffin is left in the shed...

There's a story that the first webcam was set up to let computer scientists know how much coffee was left in the percolater without having to go downtairs to the kitchen.

I've got it. Piece of string, lamp tied to one end in the shed, counterbalance to the other in the kitchen. As the paraffin is used up, the lamp gets lighter and rises, and the counterbalance falls.

Genius!

Things always change, as Briggs said, it is cheaper to run the our oil burner at the moment as it is to use logs, couple of years ago oil was sooo expensive, now, well.....

But you cant beat a real fire and it works with no electric.

I suppose I am spoiled. I get all my wood for nothing.living in the country, it is one of the advantages.I am not anti technology, but putting a match to paper and having the stove roaring in 2 minutes seems so simple. We have central heating that we use only rarely. If the grid was out,we would not suffer unduly. Perhaps I am a simple ( oldish) man?

Just so you know, there's an infra red camera pointing at my log store.
