In the next couple of weeks over a long weekend! the gas and electric are going off (exept the fridge) and i'm going to live those four days from my preps! I won't be going out to the shops or down the pub! i'm going to play it like i'm bugging in due to an unknown hostile situation!
I'm not using any of my camping gas or any of my long term stored food just my preps that are going out of date. and pallet wood instead of coal and our log supply!
a small test!

Re: a small test!
Always good to test your preps, in my case I have to wait till MrsCC is away for the weekend as although she humours me (and to be fair she is slowly coming on board) she draws the line at that sort of test.
Are you leaving the water on ?

Keep us updated as to how it works out, what you needed more of, what you didnt need at all type thing
Re: a small test!
Eeek! You're a braver soul then me then. I'm all for testing preps but unless the THTF then I wouldn't be able to go without showering at least once a day.
Let us know how you get on though - and if you end up cracking and ringing Domino's Pizza or the local kebab house!

Re: a small test!
Apologies to those of a weak constitution for the following post This is for hardcore very limited water survival
Going without showering is easy. Because your skin constantly sheds you can never get more filthy than a fortnights worth of dirt.
Which can mean pretty minging BO. But if you change your clothes normally you can get away with the occasional baby wipe and no showers. Rather than wash, just give yourself a good rub over with your hands
or a towel and use the baby wipe on the bits that get really sweaty and your face. Use unscented baby wipes. I always have about 5 to 10 packs in the store. They will clean anything!
I did a trial run last year and went close to 8 months without a shower
I wasn't doing massive ammounts of daily manual labour, but even when I did, it wasn't as bad as I was expecting.
The result was:
Hair:
Your hair gets greasy to start with and smells like sheep after a week or two, but then totally cleans itself!!! No smell, no grease, nice and soft. Just brush it nothing else. A have always suffered from a bit of dandruff and that went too!
Skin:
dry skin cleans up better. you can get spots mainly on the back and where clothes rub like around the biceps at Tshirt sleave level or occasionally back of the neck. You want to keep your hands and face clean for obvious hygene reasons.
As long as you wear breathable clothing armpits and ....erm legpit
dont get that bad.
As for more personal bits. Baby wipes, that is what they are designed for.
Feet:
Minging!!!!!!!!! You know that vinegar/acetic acid smell that is soo strong that you only smell it for a split second before your nose stops registering it! thats the one. Mixed with some kind of stinky chease (where is the puke smiley?)
Feet need alot of care if you are limiting washing water. They need to be dry as much as possible and two changes of socks per day if wearing boots. Ideally breathable or open footwear whenever you are not working or walking.
Best way to keep them upto scratch is to soak them once a week in a tray/bucket or something that just hold enough water to cover up to the boney bit on top of the foot. Put half a cap of bleach in the water. soak them until almost pruning then give them a good scrub. get a Pediegg! its an absolute must for footcare. then towell dry and leave them out to air dry properly.
BO:
You won't notice it after a day or two
Other will.
Get some colloidal silver for your medical supplies. Use a small refillable pump spray to put a couple of squirts under arm, crotch, feet when you would normally use deoderant. This will kill bacteria and stop BO from being made. It also helps stop you getting sweat rashes.
DONT USE DEODERANT! AND NEVER ANTIPERSPERANT!!!! they block the skin pores which leads to infection and rashes if you are not constantly bathing. They can also cause chemical burns.
Sweat is good. It cleans the skin and pores and cools you down. Use towel to dry off and silver after you do. Its the bacteria on your skin that causes the smell, not sweat. Dryness, Sunlight, Oxygen and silver kill the bacteria. Us ethese instead of deoderant and washing.
If you do the above you might get a bit of BO, but not very much.
Conclussion:
At the end of 8 months I was no worse than after about a week and a half. the only long term problem is some spots on the arms and back. So you really only need a good hot bath once in a while to stop them. Apart from that, you can happily live with minimal water use for washing.
I did find that when I had been working hard digging out some clay in the garden. Getting the clay on my skin really helped clean it. So the pigs and elephants seem to have it spot on.
