That's very true. The real biggies that throw you always seem to just appear out of the blue.

Absolutley.

Its also unexpected failures in things and a false sense of security that can be fatal. Take the town in Japan with a 10m high tsunami defense wall and huge steel gates. The wave was 10m so they should have been fine.
What they didn't plan for was the earthquake caused the land to sink so the wall was only 9m when the wave came in. As for their impervious steel gates, It bent them back like tin foil :o
A double fail and no doubt countless lives were lost because they thought they were safe.

Always hope for the best but expect the very worst.
