Hello all.
I've never been too good at these introductions...
I guess I'm newish to prepping, though not to the principles behind it. Since I live in darkest Cornwall, I've always had to be prepared to some extent.
I stumbled across this site while researching off-grid solar power and instantly got taken in by the down-to-earth advice on here.

I guess I'm prepping for the "everyday" scenario - power cut, harsh winter etc, rather than the world ending.
My main concern is feeding the family and keeping them warm in the event of power loss during the winter. As we're out in the sticks, the house is all electric, so there's no gas to fall back on, though we do have the luxury of a nice open fire to keep us warm.
I've got a couple of small camping stoves, but I guess they're really only any good as short term solutions.
I'd like to be able to have a totally off-grid set up separate from, but connectable to the house.

Big welcome. I am also not of the opinion that the world is going to come to an end in the immediate term. But I am also aware that i have more kit than most people in their sparsely kitted out minimality homes which means that i can probably look after myself marginally better.
Its August. That means that we have 4 months till wilter properly starts...... Might be worth while getting more ethanol in stock.

There's always room for more ethanol, my preference is in the firm of vodka! Seiously though, now is definitely the time to start stocking up on winter fuels, in my case that means coal and firewood. I'm lucky in that I'm allowed to take all the damaged pallets from my work for free, which helps keep costs down quite a bit.
