Hi from Liverpool

Post by Scousebob »

Hi,

I have been lurking for a while on the website and thought that I would actually like to start contributing to the community. As stated, live in Liverpool, married, 2 teenage children and would like to make a more focused move towards becoming better prepared for emergencies and more independent food wise initially. We only have a small garden, but currently, reading lots about square foot gardening and deciding on which crops to grow. Planted late Charlotte potatoes yesterday for Christmas and have been give some fruit plants, probably too late for fruit, but I can plan for next year. Anyway, look forward to finally chatting with all of you.

Hello and welcome to our on line community, what are you concerns that you are prepping for just to get an idea of where you are coming from

Hi and welcome. I also have a small garden so find the idea of square foot gardening particularly interesting. It might be worth checking with the council to see if there are any nearby allotments with plots available, or at least be put on the waiting list.

Where to start
Not the zombie apocalypse, although my misses keeps sarcastically stating that whenever I ask her to buy another bag of rice or pasta. "What for, the zombie apocalypse?"

The next generation will be poorer than this generation, the disparity between the rich and poor keeps increasing and I have no faith in the goverment. A world still hooked on oil, what if this was cut off tomorrow?, can you imagine the chaos. Extremism. Environment. Fish and meat prices will keep on increasing. It only takes one strike, or one news story to start people panic buying and the supermarkets are not built to store vast quantities. Ever increasing utility bills. Old man rant over :D
I would like to be less dependent on others for our food, water and power and also pass this mindset to my children who can hopefully become more independent and pass it on.

Funny you mention that, I had a look at the councils website this morning and have signed up on a waiting list to local allotments. They are less than 5 minutes walking distance and I am 19th on the waiting list :P .

Welcome mate, you're not alone in that scenario, complete with the rolling eyes, she's getting better and some aspects of it are more appealing to her than others but she still can't help herself and tut when I'm picking up pasta or a 4 pack of beans for the "zombie stores", I even refer to my preps, especially the food ones as zombie stores myself now.

There's loads of good info on here though, whatever you're looking for.

Personally, red  even though I'm an expatriate

Welcome to the forum,Scousebob :)

Do you have a *front* garden? I'm wondering about "camouflaged" prepping - what you could grow at the front that doesn't mark you out as a prepper. I'll list some if you're interested.
