Personally i've NEVER understood the litre method of measurement (other than as an arbitary comparison method)

I mean a 20 litre daysack could then theorhetically hold TEN 2 litre water bottles )or TWENTY 58 patt bottles, try fitting 15 2 litre bottles of pop in your little molle bag and see how far you get

Slightly back on topic those polish bags do not look very comfy foro heavy loads or long distance but i may be wrong as i've never had first experience of one. Have you had a look at the issue NI patrol packs, dirt cheap, fairly common, reasonably comfy and hold a lot of litres probably (they also come in plain black and plain green)

The NI Patrol pack looks like a decent bit of kit. I'll keep my eyes peeled for one of those.

With regards to the pack I have now, I really doubt if i could get 15 x 2 bottles in there. Not a hope!

You can downsize your messkit, water bottle and crusader or similar, those "Nato" metal water bottles (Poormans pathfinder) are cheap and really robust. If your kit is designed around 3days there's no need for anything fancy (unless you want it).

The Yugo set isn't much different in size to the Crusader (they're both based on 1 litre water bottles after all) and you get a pot, a bowl and a "cup" as well as the bottle.



A DDR esbit stove is almost the same size as the Yugo footprint and the pot sits quite well on it.

I like old Sov-Bloc gear because its cheap and bomb-proof

The bottom picture is exactly what I have along with a Hexi Stove. It's a reasonable kit and much cheaper than the Crusader set.

I too like old Warsaw pact stuff. Many people poo-poo it and go for british or american stuff and pay top dollar. I personally like Czech, Russian and Polish stuff and what I have serves me very well. My Czech field jacket saw plenty of wear this past summer.

I went for a 4 day hike recently with a 40 litre backpack and it was a squeeze.... And I didn't even have a tent, just a tarp n bivvy poles.

That one looks like it could use pockets/straps to lash extras onto.

I use a 3 day assault pack its MTP £20 roughly 50L but you can take all 3 pouches off it you will need to re "threat" the webbing but its great very good zips and its shower proof ben using it since I left the ACF and there hasn't been any faults and I would like to add that cadetdirect.co.uk do very good assault packs molle packs and all sorts from boot to food to knives its a very good shop and I suggest you all should check it out

I have to admit this is my favorite surpluss store, but for this exact reason, this pack is only £15 and has an external frame, bomb proof swiss army!

Some how I stuck an extra digit on the end sorry.

Basically its a wide mouth metal (alu) water bottle and a metal mug, giving you 2 boiling vessels essentially a poorman Pathfinder cookset.

I have just been to my local surpluss store he has the Puma pac for £30! He is struggling to compete with online stuff, its a shame as he has some good gear, but it was good to see the Puma, its a good size, I may get one as a day sac for going up the woods with the kids, nice, but id want some side pockets if it was a BOB?
