Canning Jars

Post by jean405 »

I bought some canning jars for half price this week, as I plan to have a pressure canner soon. My sweet ex MIL rang and told me they were on offer in Netto (Denmark), my local Netto didn't have them, but the one near work did.
I was on Sears.com looking for canning lids, then when I was about to order the next day I couldn't get on the website :o

Does anyone know what Reference #18.ee9b7b5c.1299736884.31b4eb6 means, or where I will be able to find out what it means?

I also dehaydrated 2 kilos of potatoes this week to go into storage.
I bought a Swedish book with a pattern for a Lap Landers felt cap, and felt slippers (boots), so I know what I will be sewing this summer, although I will be giving felting a miss, and buying it instead. I saw some of that material that is used for making tea cosies, and am thinking of lining the slippers with that. If I ever get a new digital camera, I'll upload the results.

You could swap patterns and ideas with Red Doe, Jean, she does the same kind of thing. I can't help with canning jars but am sure somebody else will.

Hi Jean, if you click on this link....
http://www.mysears.com/topics/Sears-com ... nied/posts and scroll down to read the answers, Sears` server appears to be having intermittent problems. So the chances are they`ll have it fixed at some point. Hope this helps. :)
Re canning, I have a friend who is bidding on a second hand canner on Ebay for me in return for some work I`ll do for her, it`s a Presto one, not sure if she`ll win, they seem to go for a lot of money. It`d be sent from the USA. No idea where to get canning lids but will Kilner jars that can be bought in the UK do as well? I know they sell them with the metal two part lids with the depression circle that pops down when they are sealed, if that makes sense?

Red Doe where did you find that link? I had googled the reference no, but no luck! Anyway, thank you, Sears site is up and running again, so I can order the lids. I have to buy the jars they sell here in Denmark, the Italian jars can use the same lids as Ball/Kerr lids, and the lids are so cheap from Sears. I also buy the German Weck jars, and the French Parfait swing tops, but I only ever buy jars when they are on sale.
Jars in UK:

I want to buy an AA pressure canner, as there are not so many spare parts that need replacing. I really want to start canning my meat sauces, stews and fish, instead of having to use the freezer.

I had a look at the Sears site since the Ball regular mouth canning lids fit the new Kilner jars and they are a third of the price that Lakeland charge (and I haven't found it any cheaper). But they wanted £28!!!!!! for shipping!!!!

Need to get my friend's brother's wife in Georgia on the case

Plus they will shove a Customs charge on it to cover VAT mary. Anything over the £20 VAT level the customs slap a charge on it and you need to pay to get it out of the post office.
