Hens,eggs and all that
Re: Hens,eggs and all that
Isinglass is for egg storage. Essentiallty it blocks oxygen to the egg I spose. I agree I think it sounds dodgy, that's why I asked if you'd tried it!
Because if you said it was ok .........

Ahhh just seen a article on egg preserving. Looks good. sounds gross though

Agreed, it remains on my 'must get round to it at some point (maybe)' list!

Thanks stasher. A friend of the mrs was looking after one of her neighbours chickens, she said they've wrecked her garden and they stink?
I've not noticed a smell around chickens, maybe she just resented doing it. But it has put the mrs off a bit.
Maybe we should go and spend some time around them to get a feel for it. Does anyone have any recommendations of a good solid breed to start off with?

From what ive heard lots of chickens stink because of their waste but ive got a friend whos owned 3 or 4 intermittently and smell I dont believe was an issue

Don't forget you can coat eggs in oil and they should last a year so long as they are kept cool.

Warrens are a standard brown chicken, or try Light Sussex - very attractive. It might be worth picking up a poultry magazine from a newsagent and having a read throSteve20vt wrote:Thanks stasher. I've had chooks on and off for years -I like to run them free range with a cockerel.
Considering getting a few more, but I'd like to get on top of the rats first. The cat/dog aren't cutting the mustard,so any ideas? (always worried about using poison with pets)
Also thinking of a pair of geese, but need to look into that further!
