Decaff - I can relate! My beast of an American Fridge Freezer packed in last week and it's been a right pain. But we're "using the opportunity" . Because this leaves an 1100mm gap in the kitchen, we're replacing with a 600 wide integrated fridge freezer and a 500 wide full height larder unit - this will then take all of the equipment currently taking up space in the cool pantry that we made out of a cloakroom area at the back of the house last year and leave a lot more room for food storage.... The deficit in freezer will then be more than compensated for by the addition of a chest freezer in the (insulated) out house and that will allow my to make the most of our allotment gluts as well..... I can achieve all of this for the cost of a replacement massive fridge freezer that I would have needed to fill the kitchen gap, so while it's a 4 figure bill I could've done without, the long term benefits are compensating and stopping me from sobbing into my pillow(!)Decaff wrote:
At last my new fridge arrives tomorrow, been very very difficult going without a working fridge for a month but hurrah, the end is in sight!! Have to say though that the bottles of water frozen in the freezer (4 bottles used in rotation of 2) and then put on the top shelf of the fridge really did make a difference and milk, butter, cheese and ham was kept cold and was safe to eat. Grapes on the other hand did not do so well and they went off really quickly. Bottles changed over first thing in the morning and last thing at night was key to keeping the temperature down, any bottles of drink were cooled down in the freezer before being put into the fridge which also helped keep it cool. A good lesson there and of course not having a filled to the brim fridge with snacky/picky food has saved me money which will now be used to add to my stocks!

Decaff, I am so glad the pop bottles did the trick. Yours is a real lesson in how to adapt.

Chuffed, highly chuffed, just blagged a half a bin bag full of new and nearly new modern DPM pattern smocks, great for roughing it in the woods or camping wild.

I've been trying to do a stocktake, and I've accidentally started to group my preps together, as well as listing them
Only done the heating/lighting bit so far, but I now *know* what I've got and where it is. And I've made some extra space in the meantime
I also know what I still need to get hold of

well they arrived today i was greedy and ordered 2 since realising the stanley knife i carry in the car boot tool box is probably illegal as it locks in the open position so ordered an orange one for the task..

they seem well made wish they did them in the wooden handle form as i like wooden handles due to the grip with wet hands.....

I've been promised a decent lump of yew and was planning on making a wooden handle for mine, so if it turns out ok I might be able to oblige you.
Saw a blog where someone had done it for the bigger version, and it looks rather smart.
