Very true, but in a fluid and unpredictable situation that may spread to other larger oil producing countries in the region, what might seem an over reaction today may seem a wise and sensible precaution tomorrow.

It's good to discuss the various options that are open to us as the situation develops

I see that the Russians had said that they will maintain gas supplies and up supply as required,
So that ok :)
As for oil I don’t know :(

I've gone for LED lanterns and Double U-tube lanterns like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Gelert-Double-U ... 548&sr=8-4 - recharged by solar or leisure batteries. Plus lots of candles and lightsticks as backup. Always good to have redundancy in your preps!

Yup! And I need some lanterns anyway so now is as good a time as any to get them.

Can I store 5 litres of petrol in my garage?

I've got my eye on some tilley lamps on Ebay. Does anyone use these? Are they easy to repair/replace bits? Some of the lamps that are for sale need mantles. I'm really not good at this sort of thing!!!
I have had two pressure lamps, Bialaddin 315's for a number of years now, for back up when the power goes off, I also have two Bialaddin Bowl Fires for standby heating, they are a good combination because all the parts are interchangeable, I have had Tilley lamps in the past but I have found the Bialaddin lamp to be better engineered and quite easy to repair.Mantles and spares can be acquired on ebay, I have found the best way to get spares is to purchase secondhand lamps from car boot sales and ebay (don't pay the earth) and cannibalize them.Hope this has been helpful.
