from a amazon review
The author describes this as a "survivors guidebook" on "how to orchestrate the rebuilding of a technology advanced society". He did not plan to provide a "comprehensive record of all knowledge", but to provide only general guidance. However, I found the guidance to be so general as to be of less use than what I was expecting. If you are interested in reading about this sort of exercise then you might like this book, but if you are looking for more then you will have to look elsewhere. My rating is based on the fact that the title and subtitle "How to Rebuild Our World from Scratch" led me to expect something that this book is not. This review is thus aimed at telling a prospective reader why, if they are expecting something to help "rebuild our world from scratch", they might likewise be disappointed.
do not think this will be of any real use to vague.

true, that was my thinking too....an Amish type lifestyle but a British version of it, but I fear we may have to go back initially further than that and work up to the Amish level, I was thinking something like the lifestyle in "Return to Green Valley" 1700s or thereabouts!ForgeCorvus wrote:If it all falls down I'd like to get to around Amish tech level as quickly as possiblelonewolf wrote:we need to go back to an earlier time and a simpler way of living.

As long as you know how to scavenge and build what you need, I don't see why you couldn't have Amish, but with the electricity!
Re: How to rebuild our world from scratch
i am planning my preps and post SHTF lifestyle around being electricity free.

Re: How to rebuild our world from scratch
We can do power free, but since we have the capability between us to build generation, we'd probably just do it. Then show everyone else here how to do the same. That way, everyone is happy!
Re: How to rebuild our world from scratch
oh well you do it your way and i'll do it my way, i'll be too busy growing food and rearing stock to have time for all that, the human race lived for thousands years without electricity, we have only had electricity for about 90 years, its not top of my list for post SHTF , my wife didn't live in a house with electricity until she was nearly 12.

We'll be doing that too. And trading with the rest of the community too. But part of that trading is the ability to generate power - and why not, it makes life a whole lot easier in extremely remote rural communities
Re: How to rebuild our world from scratch
have a look at some of the indigenous remote villages, they don't NEED electricity, they can live very well without it, as I said leccy is a fairly modern invention, and I could list a few other inventions I could happily live without too: Xboxes, Ipads, Mobile Phones, Tablets, yes Computers too, the human race is getting too ADDICTED to technology, in a few years they wont be able to wipe their backsides without some gadget or other. I prefer a slower, simpler pace of life, closer to the soil and nature. but then I always said I was born too late!!!!

Hmm. A backside wiping app. Buy tablet/smartphone. Start app. Wipe backside. Throw device away. Buy new device...lonewolf wrote:in a few years they wont be able to wipe their backsides without some gadget or other.
It's what happens now, only quicker.
SHTF around 2017.
