that's why you have to know the back roads and lanes, you know the unclassified ones!!! green lanes and bridle paths even, in an emergency.

And the railway routes, as well, they can be invaluable - but you'd have to be able to find a work-around for the stations, and sometimes the tunnels as well.

Lots of footpath maps on the web, free to access - geocaching ones in particular are great.

I live in Billingham my bug out spot will be one of the close wildlife parks need to check them out 1st though

Evening everyone.

I have a few questions about BOL. Would people try buying a plot of land outright and getting planning for a building put on it? Or try to keep it overgrown and put a tent/caravan on to it. I was thinking of maybe getting a piece of land near the York Moors and maybe using it as a holiday location, but being able to get to incase i did need to bug out. Any ideas/suggestions would be great thanks.

In my view, taking holidays to a BOL is a good start, then you can get to know the local roads, paths, flora and fauna etc. IF you can, try a bit of hunting or fishing there.

I'm in Scotland and there are a lot of islands here, as I'm sure u know, but what might be less well know is that most have a population that is the same or even lower than they had in the 1800s, therefore a pretty sustainable population even without modern farming/technologies. And in a SHTF scenario, will the ferries be running? Probably not, providing a few miles of sea as a barrier to keep zombies/pandemics away.

Or old-style, what about a castle? They were built for this very purpose after all - keep inhabitants safe and enemies out! And here in Scotland there is plenty of fishing and deer to hunt.. Check out this article http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... -most.html
