Prep because I think it is sensible, specially if there's no downside.
There is no downside to having large amounts of food if you constantly turn it over. There is no downside to collecting mushrooms and killing and eating rabbits pigeons etc.
There is no downside to making your own cider with apples you can get for free.
There is no downside to having a generator when I regularly lose electric for hours. The latter has its advantages ie £54 compensation for 18 hours or more without electric.
There is no downside to having a wood burner when you can often get wood for free.
All save you money and leave you with money to spend on important things like beer.
I would define myself as neo Malthusian but don't believe anything is a certainty. For instance there may be a lot of land not in use ie Russia
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/7528850.stm
Nor do I believe that we are short of fuel ie fracking will create vast amounts of fuel. As we have seen in the US.
What is clearly taking place is global warming. The cause is open to opinion although as neo Malthusian I know where I stand!
I fear that the extremes of weather will cause some natural catastrophic events and we should know what happens. Hurricane Katrina lead to the supermarkets being looted within 24 hours. There is other natural catastrophes such as solar flares taking out the grid, a meteorite strike and of course there is always a good old volcanic eruptions. Of course there is the possibility of a plague taking out vast amounts of the worlds population (guess where a neo Malthusian stands on that). Although the latter I don't by any means think it is a major possibility. Nor do I worry about aliens which I am certain exist I just don't believe it is possible to travel at speeds that make inter planetary travel practical.
I want to stock pile medicines such as my epilepsy tablets my inhalers and most importantly of all antibiotics. After an infection which was in my spine legs and arm and lucky for me has only left me with septic arthritis (doesn't affect my cycling a necessity with only one bus a week and the nearest shop 6 miles away. And my favourite pub also 6 miles away.
What I dislike is people who think that they should put all or a significant amount of there resources into a vehicle/s as if a land rover will somehow save them from a catastrophe. People who green lane destroying the country side for everyone else, you know who you are!

. Area 6 Co-ordinator: Lincolnshire, Rutland, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire.
What does this involve I assume it will be every man for themselves if a catastrophe takes place?
