New Prepper - Female in East London

Post by Victoriousone »

Hi All,

I am really new to prepping, I live in East London, a single mother with my two boys aged 15 and 9 - who are both interested in prepping too! I am looking to move out of London as soon as possible but at the moment I don't know where to start and its all a bit daunting!

I have only just found this site so I haven't yet had chance to look through all the wonderful informative topics, but if anyone has any suggestions of where I should start, I would be most grateful!

:D

Hello and welcome to the Form. :)

Pull up a chair, grab yourself a cuppa and a pack of choccy hobnobs and read away.
Two is one and one is none, but three is even better.

Welcome to the group.
Single mother with 2 boys. Now to many, that would seem daunting.

Lots of information to be found here, read it all, decide and apply which is applicable to yourself, and dismiss the rest.

It can seem daunting. I initially made the mistake of thinking about preparing for "everything". I've calmed down a bit since then :)

I'd suggest you start by making a short list of the most likely scenarios you ought to prepare for.
Based on the experience of my eldest who is probably in a similar situation as yourself, that list might be (e.g.)

Unforseen expense for urgent repairs when on a limited budget.

Having to head for hospital in the middle of the night due to urgent child illness.

So, you might look at starting with a plan to stockpile 1 weeks worth of basic groceries and have an "overnight grab bag" tucked away somewhere.

I'm sure the kids can help with some of that planning.

Love the name! Welcome to the site.

The suggestion of an overnight grab bag is a really good idea - it took me months of prepping for the classic zombie apocalypse    before I realised how many thousands of house fires there are in the UK each year, for instance, and since I live hundreds of miles away from my mother I might need to get to her in short order if anything happened, that sort of stuff.

Otherwise, what if you had a bad dose of flu, do you have enough kit for that? Or a lengthy power cut? That sort of thing, that gets you thinking and then you can build up from there.
