What meds should I stock up??

Post by countryhideaway »

Hi,

First post here, and it looks a great site :)

So my first question, is what meds I should ensure I have plenty of?

I have loads of plasters, bandages & paracetamol, but what other things can I stock up on?

Also, as a side note, where is the cheapest place to get a few litres of hand sanitiser that doesn't need water? I keep seeing small bottles in Boots etc. for a couple of £, but I want a large amount without spending a small fortune...

Thanks in advance for the advise.

Hi welcome,

It's a tricky one as everyone is quite individual. Regards non-prescription only medicines (pom), I stock the usual aspirin, paracetamol, lemsips, diorolyte, ibuprofen (nsaids), corsodyl paste and spray (excellent for oral issues), tiger balm from Singapore for bunged up noses etc.
Prescription I keep (as am authorised to), amoxicillin, ciprofloxacin, co- codamol 30/500. This is off the top of my head though, will add morewhen I look in my kit though!

Hi Ticklemonkey,

There's a few more there I can stock up on, I appreciate the advise.

It's a shame MOTP can't just buy perscription meds, but the rules are there for a reaso and I respect that.

I would appreciate a more detailed list of meds that aren't perscription only, so I can at least be prepped with those. Many of the meds lists I have seen are for USA, and they seem to be allowed to buy meds that are, over here, perscription only.

Thanks again,

Paul

normal prescription medicine, see if you can get a stock in by putting in a repeat order sooner than needed, apart from that plasters, painkillers, get some first aid kits, some throat sweets, and maybe some lemsip, when you use anything remember to replace it(rotate, rotate, rotate).

I keep adding a 16p pack of paracetamol to my weekly shop - you can't buy too many at the same time or you are considered a suicide attempt. I think these could be the most sort after drug and therefore of highest 'value' in a SHTF scenario. Lets be realistic, if you have lots of pain relief and someone with toothache has lots of 'sweets' there's a black market to die for ( I mean live for! )

All over- the -counter. Pain relief, flu and cold remedy, sore throat, anti -diarrohea(shtf,literally,you will die without this),Women in the house? Cystitis powders-trust me I have three of 'em and this is a problem when it cannot be treated. Indigestion remedy, especially if you are eating a weird diet. Burn treatment,we'll be using naked flames. Blister treatment and foot powder. We will be walking a lot. Surgical spirit for wound cleaning and skin hardening. Iodine, antiseptic AND water purification.

A lot of these can be bought at Poundland. The Galpharm brand. The Flu remedy works. Hope this helps.
In three words I can sum up everything I have learned about life: It goes on.

Robert Frost.

Covid 19: After that level of weirdness ,any situation is certainly possible.

Just remember to stock up on things you and your family/partner/others can use! No point buying aspirin or ibuprofen if you or other people suffer from stomach ulcers.

Same thing, if you're diabetic, or taking medication to lower your blood pressure then certain medications (cough syrups with pseudoephedrine in for example) can make these problems worse! :?

bandages of various types - way more than just plasters
