I am a woman from the midlands, UK and only recently started prepping, because I am getting very nervous with the way things are going today. I have turned one of my back bedrooms into a fully stocked strong bolt hole, but my husband and my mother think I am crazy, and I am having difficulty with their reaction. How do I deal with this? My mum, who is 82 thinks I should be sectioned. Its horrible and upsetting, so any advice would be wonderfull.
Many thanks.

Re: Waving a big hello!
That does sound upsetting, Tabetha
There's nothing crazy in wanting a good storecupboard - anything from a bad storm to a lorry strike to a pandemic to a terrorist attack, a bad dose of the flu or an accident at work can mean you don't want to be out and about, and thats when your own stores come into their own.
When you say a strong bolt hole, what do you mean? A secure room with bolts in case of burglars?
In any case, welcome

I would have thought with your mam being 82 she would be able to see the case for prepping more than a younger person after all having seen Rationing of the Second World War and years following, the Cold War and public service announcements around staying safe and being responsible. Anyhow welcome to the forum.

Hi TabethaTesla, welcome to the forum. I have an elderly mother who sometimes says the most dreadful things to either me or other relatives. I have to believe that it's due to her ageing process and hope that I do not follow with the same vicious streak. I hope that you will enjoy your time on the forum, there's lot of advice and excellent tit bits of information to pick up on
Enjoy!

Re: Waving a big hello!
Welcome
my family think I'm crazy too. With most none preppers its a dripping tap syndrome, wait till they need a light bulb or something else which you have in your store cupboard it won't be the old
hat then. As for mum just mention to her the blackout's in the 70's Your Mums generation is the last of the ones that did not have on tap doctors or relied on electricity for everything and to them it does seem mad to want to go back to those days, so ask her questions like how to get a stain out of something with out using modern day chemicals how long did they boil the wash for did she have a fridge when she was a girl and if not how did they keep things fresh. To my surprise the other day I wanted to put some meat in the fridge but had no idea how long I could keep it in there for
so it went into the freezer (note to self must look that up) it is the simple thing that trip us up

Re: Waving a big hello!
Hey good for you! I always think well how are you not storing food and other bits too! I think most people live in there little bubbles that the world is this happy place in reality it's really not. Even if you don't believe in a coming economic crisis/depopulation or all the other things it's a good insurance that if times are hard at least you and your family can eat well. My nan (when she was alive) even still in the late 90s had her spare room full of food because of the 2nd world war where they were starving. Chin up and ignore the negativity you know what your doing will help your family long term.
