Mincemeat

Post by DundeePrepper »

I know it a bit of an acquired taste... One that I am actually beginning to acquire  ..

I was thinking mincemeat basically lasts forever when you make it yourself (topping up every 3/4 months with alcohol so I am assuming the jars from Lidl (99p) would be a good stock for prepping.. 3/4 jars atleast.
Especially after X-Mas as it will likely be reduced to clear - any ideas on shelf life as its not something you will generally go through to rotate and replace?

Love mincemeat so tasty. I bought a few jars and have put into my storage system, best before end 2016 I think! But, if the jar stays sealed and stored correctly it should be fine for much longer. Stashing jars of duck fat too as this is the time of year to get it.

I've eaten mincemeat from a tub (one of those big 2kilo jobs) two years after it was opened (and that wasn't opened until a couple of years after the BBE)

Alcohol, sugar and salt*. Nature's preservatives

I also like the stuff and have been known to spread it on toast
