Re: Is there a wrong way????
That will have been me, Glad you like it
i might have 2 of them now
http://www.tesco.com/direct/tesco-lante ... d=712-0593
(think thats the one ^ but no mention of the wind up)
I got one of these the other night:
http://www.tesco.com/direct/summit-coll ... 0-6031.prd
(it survived the fall on the supermarket floor from the top shelf drop test)
it seems far more robust than this one and IMO brighter
http://www.tesco.com/direct/summit-1w-s ... d=169-1012
PS can anyone tell one of my main preps is power cuts (be it grid problems or flooding of our main substation)

Thanks everyone for tolerating my rather over the top reply. The caffeine had kicked in and i was getting bit passionate, so I am sorry if i did seem over the top, but you guys seem to have taken it in good spirit.
I just can't stand it when silly billies bully. It's just not cricket.
and I have a thing for torches too. Thought they were magical when I was a child and still do to a degree. Thanks to 99p stores for keeping me well stocked in LED stuff

Re: Is there a wrong way????
You've done nothing wrong at all - preps are not only very individual, but also very changeable.
We come on these forums to see what everyone else is doing, and maybe see if we haven't planned for something we should have. Sometimes we see someones plans and think to ourselves, well, that's not high on my list of priorities - but we're sensible enough to know that it is obviously high on their list, and that's fair enough.
Sometimes we change our minds... I've stored lots and lots of candles as I believe power cuts are high on the list of problems. Last week we had a day long power cut and I discovered a bit of a flaw with my candle plan. (they drove me mad, they didn't throw much light, and don't actually last long). This week I've bought some LED stuff - better light, safer, easier. And some more candles. I may need to move to a torch obsession. I don't think anyone in here would be rude enough to tell me I'm doing it all wrong - the point is we're thinking, we're doing our best, and we haven't time for loudmouths who are making a lot of noise but not actually helping!
Short of water?...in England? Hmmmm I'm tempted to say 'if only...'

Re: Is there a wrong way????
Quote: I mentioned that i had purchased that day 10 boxes of stuffing mix for 15p each, 10 tins of sardines in tomatoes for 30p each and 10 bags of instant mash at 12p each. I also mentioned that i am not really fussed on the taste of sardines but due to the long shelf life and the fact they are a good sauce of protein they will suffice.
You can use Smash to thicken sauces and soups.
With a bit of thought you have all the ingredients there to make crispy coated sardine fishcakes.
You can use dried stuffing mix for much more than traditional stuffing mixed with water, Google it there are loads of recipes for coating meat, fish and vedge (makes good roast taties)
Tell him to get stuffed (pun intended)

You are right, I shouldn't have clicked the link. I didn't spend any money, but that much porn before my lunch time tea was a bit much for meYorkshire Andy wrote:

Re: Is there a wrong way????
Had you spent £1000's on stuff you don't like/won't use well maybe the knockers have a point but spending just a few quid here and there is irrelevant in the whole scheme of things. On the other hand: The adage goes along the line of "choose what you use and then use what you choose"
In other words buy things that you will actually use and don't just store them but actually use them (on a rolling basis, of course).
Prepping is not really about prepping for just one scenario. A couple of grands worth of MRE is a complete waste of money if you hate the stuff - unless you are prepping for 'the big one'. And if you are prepping for zombies/WW3 etc then you probably have a faux-religious-belief* belief anyway. IMHO
Prepping is about being in a position to respond to whatever might happen. The old boy scouts motto of 'Be Prepared' sums up our movement.
Quote From Wikipedia:
"Baden-Powell on "Be Prepared"
In English, this motto is most commonly Be Prepared. In the third part of Scouting for Boys Robert Baden-Powell explains the meaning of the phrase:
The Scout Motto is: BE PREPARED which means you are always in a state of readiness in mind and body to do your DUTY.
Be Prepared in Mind by having disciplined yourself to be obedient to every order, and also by having thought out beforehand any accident or situation that might occur, so that you know the right thing to do at the right moment, and are willing to do it.
Be Prepared in Body by making yourself strong and active and able to do the right thing at the right moment, and do it.[1]
The motto of the Girl Guides is "Be Prepared". Why is this? It is because, like the other Guides, you have to be prepared at any moment to face difficulties and even dangers by knowing what to do and how to do it. "
End Quote
When you pronounce the expression "faux-religious-belief" it adds emphasis to do so clutching your hands together behind your head and banging your elbows together.
