Hello from a secret island

Post by Malthouse »

Good morning all :)

I have been prepping for years, but only when I joined a forum in the US did I think to search for a UK one.

Hopefully I can bring some skills and knowledge to help as well as learning from you all.

Preparedness has driven me all my life, it has resulted in me having a broad collection of skills and material resources...

I am a qualified ambulance medic, currently training for a number of international EMT certifications to enable me to work even further afield than I already do. I also train first aid as well as remote medical skills, officially for people setting off on expeditions but the real motive is to keep my own skills in self reliance up.

For 15 years I have also been a licensed radio engineer and can help source and setup a number of communication systems, that includes 12v self sufficient power systems.

For 5 years I have been a maritime instructor, so know about navigation and weather as well as the boat specific skills. This also ties in with first aid as I can teach to the standard required by the coastguard and RYA, including the use of ships medical supplies (i.e. beyond your basic first aid kit).

I also work in the private security industry and have a good collection of contacts in that business, which brings me to the other skill I have had for many years which is firearms.

So if you have any navigation, communication, power generation, medical or similar questions please do fire away. Always keen to help.

I should add that I have also worked in resilience planning services in the UK, as well as knowing many of the manufacturers/distributors for the kind of kit we all like.

All of that. My biggest area of work has been tidal power, but done lots of solar and wind too.

As I have opined in another thread, generators are next to useless in my experience. Certainly in a Prepping scenario. I would much rather have a couple of renewables ticking over for my light and comms.

Hi and welcome. There is a business in my building that deals with wind power. Seems all very interesting. As i have working in the renewable sector before its great. The thing i struggle with is the output vs cost. Obviously if you put up loads of panels and link it all in and figure a way to store the power its great but a small suitcase generator pulls way more power! I must add im no expert at all, im not an electrical engineer or sparky but this has always got me stumped when looking at my options.

Anyway glad to have you on board and look forward to reading your posts.

Cheers and festive greetings!
